22 October 2021

While some seek rest and relaxation on holiday, for others action and exercise is a must. Between vast national parks and nature reserves,Europe offers a wide range of opportunities for sports enthusiasts of all kinds. Thus, people who like to exercise get their money's worth on holiday.

Surfing on the coasts of the Algarve

If you want to surf, you don't necessarily have to go far. Because the southwest coast of the Algarve, where the Algarve merges into the Alentejo, offers perfect conditions for surfing. Winding roads, countless lonely bays and a fantastic, wild landscape attract surfers from all over Europe. Due to the mild climate, you can surf here all year round and the surf schools and shops also remain open in summer, away from the high season. With around 800 kilometres of surfable coastline, Portugal offers countless surf spots where everyone from beginners to experienced surfers will find what they are looking for.

Golf paradise Costa del Sol

The Costa del Sol in Spain is not without reason known as the golf mecca of Europe, because along the entire coast there are countless golf courses: on average one golf course every 1.5 kilometers. The pleasantly mild temperatures, even in the winter months, combined with long days make the region a golfer's paradise. Especially around the coastal city of Marbella, holidaymakers will find the largest number of golf courses and also some hotel complexes that have a golf course.

Skiing in the Austrian Alps

Countless kilometres of pistes on black, red and blue runs, enchanting cross-country trails in the midst of wintry nature or free-ride trails - Austria offers winter sports for every taste. But that's not the only reason why ski resorts like Ischgl, the Arlberg or Obertauern are known beyond the country's borders: The small country in the centre of Europe also has a lot to offer when it comes to hut fun and culinary delights. Where could a delicious yeast dumpling or Kaiserschmarren taste better than at an alpine hut in the middle of the ski area?

Dolce Vita on two wheels

Autumn is the ideal season to discover the enchanting Italian landscapes by bike. Not too hot and with little rainfall, the country offers the perfect thermal conditions for cyclists. If you choose a route in Emilia-Romagna in Tuscany, for example, or conquer a few kilometres in Umbria, you will extend your summer at the same time. The cultural highlights of the country and the historical culinary delights as well as typical accommodation ensure that the dolce vita is not neglected during the tour. Those who decide to go on a cycling holiday in a group should, however, already be an experienced cyclist - the sporting level is usually quite high.

Hiking dream Corsica

Corsica combines everything that nature lovers are looking for: High mountains, wild landscape, dreamlike rivers, idyllic mountain lakes and fantastic beaches. Despite the scenic diversity, which is attractive for holidaymakers from all over the world, the island retains its originality and tourism is largely limited to the nature-oriented campsites. Especially for hiking fans, the French island is a top destination: there are almost no lifts or cable cars and most of the peaks have to be climbed on foot, with many of the mountains reaching a height of almost 3,000 metres! However, those who take on the sweaty ascent are rewarded with a breathtaking view - and with a bit of luck can even refresh themselves in one of the many crystal clear pools on Corsica.
