Ask a Local: Pauline Rocha's Favorite Spots in Paris

Rooftops, cocktails and fine dining: French perfumer Pauline Rochas reveals very personal insider tips and hotspots in her hometown Paris.

March 1, 2022

Pauline Rochas was born not only in the world of fragrances, but also into the chic metropolis of Paris . While in the past it was her grandparents, the legendary Marcel and Hélène Rochas, today it is she herself who enchants the world with beguiling fragrances.

At the age of 18, Pauline Rochas left the "City of Love" to explore the rest of the world. Today, she likes to return to her hometown for business trips or to visit friends and family. Since she rarely stays longer than a week, the successful entrepreneur now describes herself as a "Paris visitor in transit". All the better, since she can put herself into the shoes of other travelers.

Let's imagine it's early in the morning. Where can we find the best coffee in town?
There are plenty of ways to relax and to be pampered at the Café de Flore in the artists' quarter Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

Where can you get a delicious breakfast/brunch?
When I'm in the mood for a healthy breakfast, I like to go to Wild & The Moon. I'm crazy about their vegan milks: Hollyweed, Vanilla Mylk, La Vie en Rose. The fresh juices are great too. For brunch I like to go to the legendary L'Entrecote (Relais de Venise) in the Rue Marbeuf or at Porte Maillot.

Tell us your favorite restaurants in Paris?
The best fish restaurant for me is the Le Duc. The best traditional French cuisine can be found at Chez L'Ami Louis and at the Le Voltaire. I also love the food at Le Bar des Prés Cyril Lignac, Caché and L'Ami Jean.

The rooftop bar with the best view?
I can think of two right off the bat: La Suite Girafe (Note: open in good weather from April) and the rooftop bar of the Cheval Blanc

Where to find the best cocktails in town?
Very clear: in the Herbarium Bar at the Hotel National des Arts & Métiers. There you can experience mixology in its purest form. An absolute experience for the senses.

Hopefully Corona won't last forever: The best place for "a night out with the girls"?
I would have several ideas: The Serpent a Plume, the Bambino, the Raspoutine.

Where do you eat when you're in the mood for a quick snack?
To one of the many old-fashioned brasseries typical of Paris. There you order a salad "au chèvre chaud", with warm goat cheese.

Where do you go when you feel like culture?
You just have to set foot outside the door. Culture is everywhere. The many museums, Rodin, the Louvre, ...

The Louvre is the largest and most visited museum in the world, with works by Albrecht Dürer, Jan Vermeer, Hieronymus Bosch and other very great artists. ©Shutterstock

Where do you prefer to go running?
Along the banks of the Seine, the Rive Droite (Note: "right bank"), via the Jardin des Tuileries to the church of Notre Dame, then to the Île Saint-Louis, and back along the Rive Gauche (Note: "left bank").

What do you do to clear your head?
I go for walks in the beautiful Parisian parks, such as the Jardins du Palais Royal, the Place des Vosges, or the Parc de Bagatelle.

Which hotel would you recommend to your best friends if they were in Paris for a night?
The new Hotel Costes by Christian Liaigre or the Madame Rêve.

What are your must-go events of the year?
The Fashion Weeks, the FIAC (Note: International Contemporary Art Fair). Paris is also definitely worth a visit for art exhibitions and the opera.

What is your favorite neighborhood in Paris?
I don't have a favorite neighborhood per se, but I like to move around the center of Paris - from the 1st to the 7th arrondissement. Each arrondissement has its own charm.

What is the best area for shopping?
I am also drawn to the 1st to 7th arrondissements for shopping.

What is the best way to explore the city?
The best way to see Paris is on foot or by bike.

What is the best thing about Paris?
The eternal beauty of the city, its rich history - and the many memories of my childhood.
