The 5 most beautiful running tracks in the world

On these five extraordinary running routes, everyday jogging becomes an experience - a must for all enthusiastic runners.

25 November 2021

Some people prefer to relax on vacation, others prefer action-packed holidays and some want the perfect mix. Running is one of the few sports where, apart from suitable footwear, hardly any equipment or premises are needed. Thus, this hobby can be practiced quickly and very easily in the most diverse places in the world - even on a vacation that is mainly for lazing around.

Running in a multifaceted ambience in Florida

For running enthusiasts vacationing in Florida, a run along (part of) the Pinellas Trail should definitely be on the list. A total of 61.5 kilometers, the trail stretches from north to south in the St. Pete/Clearwater region, presenting visitors with a very diverse scenery. Cyclists, runners and walkers - as motorized transportation is prohibited here - pass through parks, palm-lined paths and boardwalks overlooking the ocean along the Pinellas Trail. A particular plus of this trail are the drinking stations along the way where visitors can help themselves. For those who want to take a break, find a spot at one of the many cafes and restaurants.

Challenge in the spectacular volcanic landscape of Iceland

The loop near Suðurland is just 5 kilometres long, but it is a challenging route that is only recommended for experienced runners with appropriate footwear. The Landmannalaugar Short Loop leads along a river and offers an impressive view of the volcanic landscape. All in all, a recommendable adventure for experienced runners who are enthusiastic about extraordinary landscapes and wildlife.

Sporting versatility in the Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is a must-see for anyone traveling in Arizona. The famous canyon can be explored in different ways, for example on foot, on a bike, rafting or during a flight from bird's eye view. For a run through the Grand Canyon, the southern part is particularly suitable. The South Entrance Road leads through Grand Canyon Village to the south entrance of the National Park and finally to the Bright Angel Trail and is a popular running route. The length of the route can be chosen yourself, but in any case leads past spectacular scenery.

Running track with view of the Sonora Desert

Scottsdale is best known for its luxurious spas and excellent golf courses. The city in the American state of Arizona is also not far from the beautiful Sonora Desert, which is best known for its giant cacti. A popular trail in this area is the Brown's Mountain Trail in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve - a 6-kilometer trail with several viewing platforms along the way. Although the trail has a small climb, no avid runner should miss this trail with breathtaking views.

Running in posh Long Island

Long Island is the weekend getaway destination for wealthy New Yorkers. The Hamptons offer luxurious diversions such as expensive spas or elegant restaurants. But sports enthusiasts can also let off steam in the region, for example at Eisenhower Park in Nassau County. Long Island's largest park offers several swimming pools, tennis courts, and numerous golf courses and other sports fields. A signposted running track also runs through the park. If you haven't had enough after that, you can also run through the streets of one of Long Island's most exclusive residential neighborhoods: Westbury. The beautiful estates and gardens contribute to the special scenery here.
