1. vienna, austria

Vienna is not only famous for its centuries-old culture and beautiful old town, but also for its coffee houses. What began around the Fin de Siécle with literary figures such as Hermann Bahr or Peter Altenberg, who often spent the whole day at Café Griensteidl or the Café Central still has a tradition today: city dwellers love to spend their time in the numerous cafés, whether on the Ring or in the city center, with to-go cups at the Danube Canal or a walk on the Danube Island. For the classic coffee house feeling you go to the Café Central or Café knight. Popular with the Viennese for its charm: the Window Café in the 1st district and the phil, where you can also buy books.

3. trieste, italy

In Italy, making coffee is celebrated as an art for everyone, from four-star restaurants to small bistros on the corner. You won't encounter a bad cup of cappuccino even at a run-down highway rest stop! Trieste, where residents sip up to 1,500 cups a day - twice as much as other Italians - has a particularly long tradition as the country's coffee port. As early as 1719, the first Austro-Hungarian sailing boats anchored in Porto Doganale, and today Trieste is still the most important coffee port in the Mediterranean. The cups that land on the tables prove the city's pioneering role: the traditional roasting companies Hausbrandt and Illy are still popular today. And Trieste's coffee houses? Cultural centers. Like the Caffè Tommaseo or the Caffè San Marco. And also in the mirror café, Caffè degli Specchi , one more than satisfies the palates of the guests.
