Sailors can choose from the Turkish Riviera around Antalya and the Aegean Riviera here. In both cases, it's still wonderfully warm even in autumn. Most of the picturesque bays are quiet this time of year. Historical cities and archaeological sites are also much less stressful to visit than during summer's high season.

Thailand: Sailing and nature

Temperature in October: 25° C
Wind speed: 10-20 knots
Best ports: around Phuket

Overgrown limestone cliffs around Phang Nga Bay that were seen in James Bond movies, countless national parks, mangrove forests and white sandy beaches: fall sailing and Thailand are quite the match. Even though monsoon season only ends at the end of October. But: It rains only up to two hours per day and the winds are favorable for sailing.

Malta: sailing and hiking

The climate is pleasant and the water temperature just right to go snorkeling and swimming even in autumn. The bays around the three islands Gozo, Comino and Malta are beautiful and all suitable to throw your anchor on. In Gozo, a day trip into nature is worthwhile. It's also excellent for hiking.

The largest island of the Mediterranean is a popular destination for summer vacationers. When things slow down in September, that's when sailing season kicks off. The wind picks up speed, creating the perfect conditions to set sail. Sicily scores with excellent food everywhere, such as Principe Ceramí. Or even simply at an osteria in Palermo. You can also visit historical sites in the Valle dei Templi or even smaller places like Taormina stress-free.

French Polynesia: sailing and snorkeling

Temperatures in October: 23-29° C
Wind speed: 15-20 knots
Best ports: Marina Papeete, Marina Taina, Raiatea

How about a trip to paradise? French Polynesia with its 118 islands comes very close. The archipelagos in the South Pacific attract visitors with tropical jungle vegetation, friendly locals, and snorkeling adventures. October is considered one of the best times for sailing in the fall as it's springtime on the other side of the world. Temperatures are stable, the rainy season has not yet started and the winds are ideal for fast-paced cruises.
