Since 2009, when William Reed Business Media first published its list of the 50 Best Bars in the World, it has become a reliable guide for barhoppers and fans of a well-curated drink. This year's edition was sponsored by Perrier. The awards ceremony in London was attended by a who's who of the international bar scene. Among the top 10 best bars in the world were:

Masahiro Urushido worked in some of New York's best bars before opening Katana Kitten. The bar in Greenwich Village is an exciting mix. On the one hand a typical American bar with beer and bites, on the other hand a Japanese highball bar. In addition to whiskey long drinks, Urushido's variations on the Old Fashioned are particularly noteworthy.

Signature Drink: Crystal Ramos Gin Fizz

The Jigger & Pony is considered one of the top bars in Asia. It is known for its unusual ideas. Among other things, it is worth ordering a Crystal Ramos Gin Fizz; according to bar program director Aki Eguchi, its preparation takes up to 72 hours. Jigger & Pony is located in the Amara Hotel and is a cozy place for all kinds of guests. With "Pony," the bar has its own brand of bottled cocktails to take home.

This gem is hidden in a small, inconspicuous cellar in St. Petersburg. You're greeted with a Copita glass and seated at a communal table. The guests select the latest cocktail and taco creations from chalkboards. Agave spirits by Artem Peruk, Nikolay Kiselev and Igor Zernov form the basis for the fantastic creations in the bar. Currently, there is a "reservations only" policy.

Jay Khan created one of the best Mexican bars outside of Mexico with the Coa. The tequila, mezcal, raicilla and sotols were mostly flown in directly and personally from Mexico. The team is always willing to teach guests about their mezcals. One of the most popular drinks is the Paloma de Oaxaca. It's so popular that a local brewery cans it. The Coa also won the Torres Brandy title for "Best Bar in Asia".

With the Licorería Limantour, Benjamin Padrón and bar manager José Luis León have created a place where on the one hand you can have a great party and on the other hand you can always find a quiet spot for a cosy drink. The Margarita al Pastor is considered one of the best in Mexico. The drinks are prepared with a lot of seriousness and attention to detail, the service is impeccable and of course, the cocktails too. The Licorería Limantour also received the Naked Malt Award as "The Best Bar in North America".

Entering Florería Atlántico is an experience in itself. Behind the façade of a flower and wine shop is one of the most famous Speak Easys in the country. Through the door of an antique refrigerator you go down to the cellar. There Renato "Tato" Giovannoni and Aline Vargas serve excellent drinks. They attach great importance to sustainability. The ingredients therefore come from farmers in the region. With many of their cocktails, they pay homage to Argentina's indigenous communities.

But also international guests do not shy away from the bar of Vasilis Kyritsis and Nikos Bakoulis. And for good reason. For several years now, The Clumsies has been a permanent fixture on the list of the 50 best bars in the world. The current cocktail menu offers drinks that fall into one of the categories happiness, excitement or tenderness.

When you step through a refrigerator door at a pastrami shop in the trendy El Born district, you don't expect what comes next. Because suddenly you find yourself in a bar. And it's dominated by an impressive wooden counter. Here, surrounded by wonderful decor, thoughtful drinks are created. Owner Giacomo Gianotti and his team create their liquid delicacies in their own laboratory. These include the Volcano Negroni. This impresses with a mini-volcano that pours over the glass. And the Supercool Martini is worth a try anyway. It is prepared directly at the table and comes with a mini iceberg in the glass.

Alex Kratena and Monica Berg opened their bar in 2009 and since then it has become a popular spot on the London bar scene. The place actually consists of two parts. The Elementary is the place where you can get cocktails prepared in seconds. You won't find any decoration or fancy glasses. Here you leave the field to the taste. Tayēr has an open kitchen and daily changing creations.

For the second time in a row, The Connaught Bar was ranked number 1 of the best bars worldwide. It also received the award for best bar in Europe. And quite deservedly so. The elegant hotel bar under the management of Agostino Perrone, Giorgio Bargiani and Maura Milia combines British charm with Italian influences. The much-lauded Dry Martini comes rolling up on the cocktail trolley. It is mixed to perfection and to the guest's liking. The new "Impressions" menu features The Eclipse Cocktail, a drink that leaves a lasting impression.
