The new Six Senses Kyoto - An oasis of calm in the middle of the city

The first branch of the Six Senses brand in Japan will open in 2024 in the city of Kyoto, which is also known as the heart of Japan.

26 November 2021

Japan holds a magical attraction for many visitors, as the country offers an exciting contrast of modernity and preserved culture. Kyoto is one of the largest cities in Japan and is best known for its historical parts, such as the Buddhist temples, palaces, Shinto shrines and beautiful cherry gardens. Besides the Six Senses Lisbon in Portugal, another Six Senses hotel will open its doors in Kyoto in 2024: the Six Senses Kyoto.

Elegant design directly in the city centre

Although the Six Senses Kyoto seems like an oasis with its winding paths and gardens, the hotel is centrally located right in front of the Myoho-in Temple and the Tokyokuni-Jinja Shrine. The famous, colourful Gion district is also just steps away from the hotel.

The hotel design reflects Six Senses values in elegant design. The 82 rooms are arranged around a courtyard that connects guests to the seasonally landscaped grounds. Yet, in addition to the view, much attention has been paid to the privacy of the guests. The interior design is attentive to detail, combining clean lines with earthy, organic tones and authentic Japanese décor.

Different energies

The hotel combines different energies within the grounds. While the spa and garden are Zen-influenced, other areas showcase the sensations and movements of the bustling street life. The spa incorporates ancient traditional healing methods into treatments, making wellness an experience. For dining, guests can choose from a variety of restaurants and bars, including an all-day restaurant, a specialty sushi restaurant, the Brew Bar or a cocktail lounge bar. Younger guests are also catered for, for example as part of the "Grow With Six Senses" series, in which children are introduced to Japanese customs in a playful way.

Cherry Blossom

One of the most popular times to visit is during the sakura, or cherry blossom season in spring, and autumn when the leaves turn colourful. Due to its central location, Six Senses Kyoto provides guests optimal access to the city's culture, history, shopping and cuisine offerings all year round.
