Impressive: Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Hamburg welcomes guests with new lobby

With this, the luxury house is also celebrating the new award as "Germany's best hotel”.

20 August 2021

The impressive lobby at Hamburg's Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten has been welcoming guests from all over the world since 1897. Since its reopening, it has shone in fresh splendour, marking another milestone in the grand hotels history - only recently the "Vier Jahreszeiten" was named Germany's best hotel.

A stately play of light

Upon entering the newly designed reception hall, the sophisticated colour concept immediately catches the eye. A unique symbiosis of cream, gold and aqua tones creates an exclusive ambience. The team around General Manager, Ingo C. Peters, was inspired by the color schemes of stately castles on the coasts of the North and Baltic Seas. Large windows allow a lot of light into the interior; the reflections of water and sun create a magnificent play of light. Accents of vanilla, cinnamon and coffee symbolise the importance of the spice trade for the port of Hamburg as a gateway to the world and ensure a colour scheme.

In terms of furnishings, the rejuvenated reception hall impresses with upholstered furniture that was specially made by the Bielefeld workshops in collaboration with JAB Anstoetz. The exquisite fabric collection from RUBELLI CASA captivates with a special kind of marbling; soft gold threads create an elegance. The glass wall, designed by the Bavarian glassblower manufactory Scholle & Deubzer, is a real eye-catcher with its hand-cut holes and luster glaze. The slatted wall, made of 50,000 glass marbles that catch the reflecting sunlight outside on the Binnenalster, rotates three times a day to match the time of day. The carpet artwork by Jan Kath, made especially for the house, is no less Hanseatic and symbolises a fresh breeze on the surface of the Alster. A crackling fire in the newly installed fireplace creates a warm, inviting atmosphere.

Modern tradition

The Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten looks back on a long, remarkable history. In the reception hall, refined details stage the tradition and classicism of the house in a modern yet stylish way. Unusual fringes as well as handmade glass bead chains and applications adorn the upholstered furniture and curtains, evoking the old art of sewing. When it comes to lighting, the hotel relies first and foremost on Italian craftsmanship: the table lamps made of hand-blown glass spheres come from Venice; the unique light couture chandeliers from the world-famous Badari brand from Florence. The wall lights were made by the Austrian family business Dotzauer Lighting.

The new eye-catcher in the lobby is the reception counter. As a homage to the Wilhelminian era, the imposing counter made of shiny, dark brown walnut and light marble was moved back to its original place - next to the entrance of the Haerlin restaurant, where it can be seen directly upon entering the hotel. The historic room keys, a true tradition at the "Vier Jahreszeiten", have been lovingly staged on the back wall of the reception.

New: The "Royal Service"

A similarly cosmopolitan idea was taken up for the new Concierge Loge in the style of a Parisian newsstand. Here, travellers not only find daily newspapers from all over the world, but first and foremost enjoy the individual, exceptionally personal advice of head concierge Dirk Bossmann and his team. The recently launched "Royal Service" is based on royal standards and offers guests first-class all-round care. Furthermore, a Beauty Butler Service and an in-house Apple Point leave nothing to be desired. Last but not least: In the new shop-in-shop boutique of the perfume house Krigler, hotel guests and locals discover unique luxury fragrances that have been wafting around Hollywood stars such as Audrey Hepburn, Marlene Dietrich and Zelda Fitzgerald for more than a hundred years.

A selection of Hamburg literature hand-picked by Felix Jud completes the concept of the new reception hall. Framed in tables and walls, guests discover works on Hamburg personalities, architecture and contemporary history, among other things. Hotel director Ingo C. Peters is proud: "The new reception hall offers our guests a festive prelude to unique moments and stays in our hotel. It is an incomparable world of experience that combines the tradition and history of the Vier Jahreszeiten with cosmopolitan lifestyle."
