Eurowings doubles flights for the Easter period

Lufthansa's budget airline is reporting a surge in bookings for the upcoming Easter travel season and has responded by expanding its services, nearly doubling the number of flights on offer.

Mallorca as a top destination

After the Corona-related slump in business, Eurowings expects strong growth in the coming months. One reason for this is primarily the lifting of travel restrictions for Mallorca by the German government. This is because the Robert Koch Institute for Infectious Diseases (RKI) in Germany has removed six regions in Spain, including the Balearic Islands, from its risk areas. The trend is already showing a marked increase: in the past two weeks, up to 80 percent more bookings were received for Mallorca, according to the low-cost airline. While there are currently only 20 planes on the road, there will soon be 45. Lufthansa is offering a total of around 1,200 European connections from the turn of the month March/April.

Compulsory testing instead of quarantine?

Nevertheless, passengers must present a negative coronavirus test before traveling. However, foreign ministries advise avoiding non-mandatory tourist travel to Spain. Airlines and travel companies are urging the federal government and states to establish an opening plan for travel. They are calling for mandatory quarantine to be replaced with mandatory testing when vacationing in high-risk countries with an incidence above 50. The current obligatory quarantine after arrival has a deterrent effect. However, it remains to be seen whether this is realistic in view of the rising number of cases.
