Fresh look for the spa at Six Senses Douro Valley

The spa at Six Senses Douro Valley convinces with technical novelties and a temptingly fiery food concept.

The Six Senses Douro Valley has a fresh look in the SPA. In detail, the new features include the water experience in the pool, which truly appeals to all the senses and has a therapeutic effect. You can also look forward to a magic mirror that allows live courses with international experts. Things get fiery in the Open Kitchen - the "Fire Bar Menu" lives up to its name and is the star of the new gastro concept.

Therapeutic water experience in the SPA for all senses

Pressure, temperature, soothing colours and sounds. All this makes the new heated indoor pool, which has been equipped with many modern elements, not only a special but also a therapeutic experience. There is a wonderful massage for the legs, lumbar region and neck thanks to an integrated hydrotherapy circuit with powerful jets. Underwater LED chromotherapy with a constant color frequency has a stimulating effect. The entire water circuit is completed by a cold plunge pool and a vitality pool.

Underwater sound experience in the Douro Valley pool

The Six Senses Douro Valley has specially designed underwater speakers built into its pool. Rapid sound waves leave the speakers, bounce off the bottom and speed to the surface of the water and each pool wall. This allows the sound to reach the listener from all directions - an unparalleled sensory experience. In general, sound waves travel much faster in water than in air. If you go under water with your head, you can feel this, because the head is full of tissue that contains water and transmits the sound waves.

A fitness room with energetic magic

The indoor yoga studio, with its magnificent panoramic view of century-old trees and the indoor pool, is the perfect place to practice Aerial Yoga. This is a yoga method to relieve pain, refine balance and alignment of the body, and improve flexibility. Mysteriously, there is a huge floor-to-ceiling mirror on one wall. Guests can participate in all kinds of workouts online through the mirror. Classes are led by health experts from around the world with live interaction between participants and instructors.

Fire in the open kitchen - back to the roots

Working with fire takes us back to our roots. That's why the "Fire Bar Menu" is the star of the new gastro concept in the open kitchen. It is the gentlest way to cook organically produced products. The team cooks with passion and deep respect for the local, seasonal and purely organic products, which should retain and fully develop their flavour. To complete this concept, a Dry Ager has been installed to celebrate the best Dry Aged meats. The Fire Bar is thus not a restaurant with Portuguese cuisine, but one that uses the best Portuguese products.

Traditional tiles pay respect to history

The floor is also new and impressive. Handmade mosaic tiles make it look like a carpet. The tiles are made of pigmented cement according to ancient tradition. The original Quinta Vale de Abraão is the building in which the Six Senses Douro Valley Hotel is located. It was completely renovated in 1905 in keeping with the philosophy of always connecting with the origin and history of the respective place.
