Hot New Hotel Openings 2020

We already reveal the hottest hotel openings of the year!

12 February 2020

From leafy skyscrapers in the Brazilian megametropolis of Sao Paulo to a medieval castle in Italy's gourmet region of Umbria, we're already showing you the must-see hotels for next summer.

The Ritz-Carlton, Mexico City

Hardly any city is currently experiencing greater hype than the Mexican capital. The newest hotel of the Ritz-Carlton Group is located in the best spot of the city, directly on the Avenida Paseo de la Reforma and exactly opposite the wonderful Chapultepec Park. On floors 36 to 47 in one of the tallest buildings in the city, 143 rooms and suites, a club lounge, a spa with pool and fitness, and a Mediterranean restaurant and bar await from summer 2020. After a few years of silence as far as new openings of international luxury hotels in Mexico City are concerned, the new The Ritz-Carlton will really shake up the market once. It also sets a fresh new tone in terms of design and is a step ahead of the city's other upscale hotels - definitely another reason to visit Mexico City again, not to mention the brilliant food scene.

Capella Bangkok

In Bangkok, too, not a month goes by without a spectacular hotel opening. In spring, the renowned Capella Hotels will debut with their first hotel in Thailand. Located directly on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River, this hotel promises a symbiosis of classic grand and intimate boutique hotel. A special highlight of the hotel are the seven villas, which are located directly on the river and have private pools. But the rooms and suites located in the main building are no less impressive: fully glazed window areas offer exciting views of the hustle and bustle of the Thai capital. At 61 square metres in the entry-level categories, the rooms are among Bangkok's most spacious, so it's no coincidence that the bathrooms resemble a private spa. You can also look forward to great gastronomy and a spa area that is unparalleled even in a city like Bangkok.

Hotel Barriere Le Carl Gustaf St Barth, St Barths

Lately, one hears more and more about the French hotel group Barrière: Whether ultra-luxury ski hotel in Courchevel or Parisian legend, the first house outside France requires special attention. Le Carl Gustaf in itself has been one of the most legendary houses on the celebrity island of St. Barths in the Caribbean for years. From the hotel you can enjoy the best view of Gustavia, the capital of the island, preferably bathing in the private pool of the suite. 15 rooms and suites in a fresh Mediterranean look stand for an exclusive island experience and ensure a varied stay on the most exciting Caribbean island.

Park Hyatt Auckland

For all Hyatt fangirls and boys, there will be another highlight in the "World of Hyatt" portfolio from spring 2020: The brand-new Park Hyatt Auckland is located in the harbour of the New Zealand metropolis and is unrivalled in terms of design and location in the island state. Based on the legendary Park Hyatt Sydney, the new hotel in Auckland will also be a fixed point for all design-savvy travellers who find themselves in this corner of the world. The hotel offers 195 spacious rooms and suites, a spa area with a 25-metre infinity pool and four restaurants and bars. Due to the previously rather unimpressive luxury hotel industry in Auckland, Hyatt is now creating a top hotel for international luxury travelers with the new Park Hyatt - reason enough to finally book the long-planned trip to New Zealand and experience a new adventure.

Rocco Forte Hotel Villa Igiea

Sicily is one of the most popular summer destinations this year - with a focus on the city of Palermo, which is reinventing itself and becoming one of the hippest places in Italy. Old buildings have been completely restored over the winter and will shine in new splendour next summer - including the venerable Grand Hotel Villa Igiea on the outskirts of the city. Sir Rocco Forte bought the magnificent property last fall and is finally reopening Palermo's long-awaited world-class luxury hotel this spring. 104 rooms and suites will reflect local details as much as Olga Polizzi's signature style. The legendary pool overlooking the port city has been kept structurally unchanged, as have the historic parts of the 19th-century villa. So you can look forward to a wonderfully restored Italian grand hotel, the kind you only see in the movies.

One&Only Portonovi

For many, Montenegro is considered the new Côte d'Azur - mega yachts line up here like luxury hotels. In addition to the two classics, Porto Montenegro and Sveti Stefan, there will be another hotel highlight in the small state on the Adriatic from spring onwards: the famous resort group One&Only is ushering in a new era here with its first resort in Europe and skilfully combines beach holidays with the infrastructure of a marina including luxury boutiques, bars and restaurants. The spacious rooms and suites overlook the impressive backdrop of the Bay of Kotor, and it's not uncommon to see the odd cruise ship passing by. In addition to a wide selection of top restaurants, the resort also offers a pool landscape with six different pools, a beach section and a spa area. If this is not enough, you can take a boat to one of the secluded bays with a private beach and turquoise water.

Cheval Blanc Paris

One of the most exciting hotel openings in Europe this year is undoubtedly the newest property of the Cheval Blanc Group. Situated in a prime location between the Louvre and the Marais district, the former department store La Samaritaine has been completely renovated over the past few years and will shine in new splendour in the spring. The 72 rooms and suites will probably be less ostentatious than the chambers in the Ritz, but you can look forward to perfectly combined understatement with the most wonderful amenities, as they are found in all houses of the renowned Cheval Blanc Group. For extensive shopping pleasure, one should definitely pay a visit to the adjacent department store, which is also being restored by LVMH. Here, wow effects are guaranteed, even if only for the big purse.

Villa Dagmar, Stockholm

Stockholm is known for its hotel innovations: From Ett Helm to Nobis, the coolest hotel concepts currently on the market are being created here. In the immediate vicinity of Östermalms Saluhall (Stockholm's world-famous market hall), an exciting boutique hotel will welcome cosmopolitans from all over the world from spring onwards: Villa Dagmar. With its own concept store, florist, day spa, private dining as well as some innovative restaurant concepts and 70 rooms, you can look forward to a hotel of a special kind. While the interior design is rather discreet and designed for cosiness, the facade of the building makes an imposing impression. The inspiration for the Villa Dagmar was the Villa d'Este in Rome as well as the Villa San Michele on Capri. The hotel is built and managed by the Stockholm hotelier family Malmström, which also owns the famous Hotel Diplomat. We are looking forward to an alternative to the Grandhotel.

Rosewood São Paulo

It is no longer a secret that São Paulo is increasingly moving into the light of the international luxury hotel industry. But when the Rosewood brand announces a new 122-residence hotel, you can expect a highlight. Located in the heart of the revitalized Cidade Matarazzo neighborhood, the building that houses Rosewood São Paulo dates back to 1904. None other than Philippe Starck is responsible for the interior design of the 151 guest rooms. Two pools, one of which is located on the roof of the hotel, a large spa, music studio, cinema room, high-end shops and two restaurants plus a caviar bar - all this can be admired this summer in what is probably the most impressive hotel in the Brazilian metropolis. The vertical garden designed by Jean Nouvel, which decorates the high-rise in a natural way, provides the special wow effect.

Castello di Reschio

For some, the 3,400-hectare estate in the Italian region of Umbria will not be an unknown quantity. Whereas it was previously possible to rent exclusive villas and holiday homes of the highest standard, from July the estate will now be enriched by a luxury-class hotel. 34 rooms and suites and two restaurants adorn the Castello, which dates back to 1050 and has long been the heart of the estate. At first glance, everything looks like an exhibition in an ultra-luxury furniture store - it's the details that indicate you can also stay here. The finest linen bedding, exquisite interior design, expensive fabrics, high-end amenities and warm hues make Castello di Reschio the perfect hotel. We are sure: Umbria finally has its luxury hotel to compete with neighbouring Tuscany.

Four Seasons Hotel Madrid

Of course, a Four Seasons cannot be missing on the list of the hottest new openings. After years in the doldrums as far as the luxury hotel industry in the Spanish capital is concerned, new superlatives are set with this house of the Canadian hotel group. As if the location wasn't highlight enough, the building in which the hotel is located is also one of the most legendary in the city: between Gran Vía and Puerta del Sol lie Madrid's largest hotel rooms, the most beautiful penthouse suites in Spain and a spa that extends over four floors. In addition to the 14-meter indoor pool, there is also a terrace on the eighth floor with loungers for relaxing between shopping and dinner. Culinary delights are also well catered for in the building: three-star chef Dani García is in charge of the gourmet restaurant on the top floor of the hotel. In addition to the Four Seasons, the building also offers the finest shopping experiences in the Galería Canalejas, including stores by Hermès and Burberry.
