This Might Be the Most Romantic New Opening in Italy

Anyone who has ever wanted to spend the night in a dreamy palazzo, get excited. In Corigliano in southern Italy, a historic building will open its doors to vacationers in the future.

13 January 2023

After 30 years, life is finally returning to Palazzo Marconi. After the historic location in the old town of Corigliano d'Otranto had stood empty for several decades, a German-Italian family took on the property and breathed new life into it. Where there had been a construction site for the past three years, two lovingly designed vacation apartments of 120 and 80 square meters now shine in fresh splendor.

The Palazzo is located in a quiet area not far from the lively center of the southern Italian city, which scores with numerous restaurants and markets. The annual highlight is the Notte della Taranta, the largest cultural festival in southern Italy.

Southern Italian vacation charm

The Palazzo Marconi, which now wows with its modern redo, was already built in 1905. The elaborately decorated facade and the six-meter-high vaulted ceilings in the shape of a star are still real eye-catchers today. The new owners wanted to preserve as many details of the building as possible. For example, the splendidly patterned terrazzo floors were cleaned and re-installed with built-in underfloor heating. The original doors and windows were also preserved and restored by a local carpenter. The owners also demonstrate attention to detail when it comes to the interior. A mix of old and new, typically Italian furniture promises a particularly exclusive vacation feeling.

Casa San Michele or Casa San Antonio?

Whether romantic togetherness or family vacation far away from mass tourism - in the two apartments an exclusive vacation feeling is pre-programmed. The larger "Casa San Antonio" impresses with 120 square meters of space, two bathrooms and a spacious terrace. The somewhat smaller "Casa San Antonio", however, is in no way inferior. From both accommodations the beautiful Italy can be enjoyed together with the private mediterranean garden, hammocks and deck chairs invite to relax at home. A pool is also already in the planning stage, and in summer 2024 guests will most likely be able to cool off under orange and lemon trees behind Palazzo Marconi.
