Anniversary: 20 years of "Bio Hotels

These are the pioneers of green tourism.

It all began in 2001 with a handful of hoteliers: the "Bio Hotels" were founded with the vision of rethinking tourism in a new and holistic way. Today, around 80 establishments in six European countries belong to the most sustainable hotel association on the market. Together, they all pursue the goal of consistently operating ecologically. This year, the group celebrates its 20th anniversary.

Each member of the "Bio Hotels" is always striving to improve the climate balance. This is done, for example, by growing their own fruit and vegetables, heating with biogenic fuels such as wood chips, using logs in the sauna, solar panels on the roof, generating biogas from organic waste, using rainwater or offering electric cars and e-bikes. The results are impressive. More than half of the "Bio Hotels" are already climate neutral or positive. From 2023, the Bio Hotels will be the first climate-positive hotel association.

All "Bio Hotels" use food from certified organic agriculture.

Regionality and short transport routes are also particularly important to the BIO HOTELS. Some hotels grow their own fruit and vegetables, purchase products from the farmer next door or procure materials directly from the surrounding area.

The "Bio Hotels" use only 100 % green electricity.

Whether in the bathroom or during a wellness treatment - all "Bio Hotels" work with certified organic and natural cosmetics according to the COSMOS standard. With miila mi, the group also presents its own organic cosmetics line.

The "Bio Hotels" attach great importance to regionality and the origin of their food.

The hotels are industry-wide pioneers when it comes to CO2 savings. Every two years, the hotels have their carbon footprint recorded in order to constantly optimise themselves. There is no other hotel association in the world where you can stay with such low CO2 emissions.

The "Bio Hotels" attach great importance to building biology and natural materials in architecture and interior design. From the house to the furniture to the towels and bedding: A healthy, ecological design and natural materials are always in the foreground.
