Culinary Highlights: Dining underwater on Huvafen Fushi

Ashish Domee, exceptional talent and chef at Huvafen Fushi, has joined the prestigious World Master Chefs Society. Even more culinary highlights now await guests.

While Ashish Domee is at the top, his restaurant is at the bottom. And that is to be understood in the literal sense. Among other things, he is responsible for the cuisine of the "Latitude 4°" restaurant. It is located eight meters below the sea surface in the Indian Ocean and is one of six restaurants and bars of the luxury resort Huvafen Fushi. Domee has been the chef here since January 2020. He has now joined the prestigious World Master Chefs Society, officially making him one of the best chefs in the world. His path to the top, however, began in Mauritius.

Ascent lined with stars

Domee first graduated from the Ecole Hôtelière Sir Gaëtan Duval in Ebène in Mauritius and the Hotelschool in The Hague. His next stop took him to the two-year apprenticeship at the Michelin restaurant Auberge de Noves under Robert Lalleman.

As his career progressed, the young chef made stops at various Michelin-starred restaurants. His path led him to the Seychelen and the Middle East, among other places. During a longer trip through Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore, he gained additional experience.

Eating under water at Latitude 4°

Domee joined the team at Huvafen Fushi in January 2020. The island, whose name translates to "dream island", is considered an iconic barefoot luxury resort with feel-good guarantees, privacy and plenty of togetherness. Its world's first underwater spa made headlines, as did the Maldives' first underwater restaurant. Here, guests dine eight meters below sea level. While they enjoy their breakfast or dinner, colorful sea creatures swim by outside the glass walls. But eating underwater is not the only culinary highlight on Huvafen Fushi.

The restaurants "Celsius", where breakfast is served, and "Forno" guarantee culinary highlights. The latter serves probably the best pizza from the wood-fired oven beyond Italy. In the Japanese fine-dining restaurant "Salt", sushi and co. are taken to a new level. Another special feature is the RAW (Revitalising Addictive Wellness) Bar. Because here, healthy delicacies support the natural effect of the spa treatments. With Destination Dining, guests choose where they would like to have their dinner - even if it is on the secluded sandbank.
