New Six Senses in India: Luxury resort opens in Rajasthan

The new Six Senses resort in India is located in a former royal residence from the 14th century. The renovation work took ten years.

About two and a half hours' drive from Jaipur airport, not far from Ranthambore National Park, lies Fort Barwara. Originally, a royal family from Rajasthan lived in the two palaces behind the thick walls. The luxury brand Six Senses took over the property over ten years ago. With great care and attention, they renovated and restored the two original palaces and temples of the fortress. Now, a decade later, a special Six Senses in India is opening in these premises. It is one behind whose walls a 700-year-old era comes to life again.

Suite Dreams at the Royal Palace

Guests enter the new Six Senses in India through an impressive gateway. Crowned heads from all over the world have walked through it. One can't help but wonder what these walls would say if they could speak. Behind the thick walls, an oasis of peace opens up. In total, there are 48 suites. Those in the east wing open up views of the countryside. In the west wing, the village of Barwara dominates the panorama. And although the walls breathe history, the décor is modern. It scores with handmade mattresses, the latest technology and many amenities.

Royal moments of pampering

But that's not all. It wouldn't be Six Senses if wellness and food didn't also play an important role. The Six Senses Spa, for example, has 2,800 square metres of space. Here, guests have the opportunity to be pampered by every trick in the book. Ayurvedic treatments are just as much a part of it as mindfulness exercises and individually tailored wellness programs. Depending on personal needs, peelings are created from mud, vegetable oils, gels and clays. A fitness centre is available for those who want to really work out.

The new Six Senses in India also knows how to convince in culinary terms. The flagship of the restaurants is the Roohani. It is managed by Matthew Cropp. The products that are the focus here come from the region. Some of it comes from local farms, some from the hotel's own organic garden. Before dinner, signature cocktails tempt you into the Rajawat Room, while the Viewing Gallery is ideal for a glass of wine. It overlooks the traditional gardens and water features that have been preserved.
