SLOW TRIPS: NEW BOOKING PLATFORM FOR AUTHENTIC AND SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL EXPERIENCES

More mindfulness, less stress.

22 March 2021

While the pandemic has kept the entire world on tenterhooks for the second year now, it has given rise to some new travel trends. For example, the awareness of enjoying a region to the fullest while being mindful of one's ecological footprint. Currently the largest Leader project in Europe, the new booking platform "Slow Trips - European Slow Travel Experiences", focuses on the following topics sustainable travel with nine participating project partners from Sweden via Lithuania, Germany, Luxembourg and Austria to Italy off the beaten tourist track. Especially in post-Covid 19 times, there is a chance for a redefinition of the tourist concept of beauty. Slow Trips shows that you don't have to travel to the South Seas to spend an exotic holiday.

The trend in tourism is moving more and more in the direction of conscious experience and sustainability.

What is behind the new tourism trend?

Slow Trips describes a completely new approach to travel itself. It works on a redefinition of the tourist concept of beauty according to the motto "less appearance and more being". Instead of a wild picture hunt and a superficial rattling off of sights, one is invited to slow down, recharge one's batteries and immerse oneself in the local culture. This is also an opportunity for tourism development in rural areas.

Slow Trips allows travelers to immerse themselves in the authentic culture of the country.

A booking platform for authentic and sustainable travel experiences

In cities, avoiding large crowds is a challenge. This became even more evident in times of the Corona crisis. Contrast this with life in the rural villages and small towns of the participating partner regions. Slow Trips taps into the trend towards participatory and sustainable tourism. Whether it's taking a bicycle trolley to the nearest organic orchard to be tempted by a Demeter workshop alongside the fruity delicacies, heading out to fish on the branching riverbanks and then joining the local fisherman at the barbecue, or simply quietly watching a sunset, the locals call these experiences "home".

Instead of mass tourism and crowded cities, Slow Tourism is all about nature and well-being.

Every booked trip from Slow Trips engages travelers in local life. The hidden places and backyards in the immediate vicinity are insider tips that are made accessible via the booking platform. With the Slow Trips offers, travellers immerse themselves in the stories of the locals, be it everyday stories or legends in the "lost places" of the region. Through this personal connection, real friendships are forged, hosts and travelers can learn from each other.

Experiences that will be remembered

Experience the authentic, discover real insider tips and let yourself fall into the region: the new travel trend has all this to offer. How about some more unusual accommodation, where you can really relax and don't have to crowd the buffet? Get a taste of the region with all your senses. Live and laugh with the locals, get to know them and their culture. All this and much more creates unmistakable memories.

Nine regions are currently participating across Europe, which also share a common philosophy and commitment to sustainable tourism. Every trip should be as environmentally friendly as possible. This should also address the economic, social and ecological responsibility of a region. Especially the intensive involvement of the locals and the associated local economy brings added value to rural areas.

Rural areas and their economy benefit from the new tourism trend.
