Holiday resorts in Austria that can be reached without a car

It is also easy to travel by bus and train.

2 December 2020

Most people spend their holidays in their own country at the moment. Fortunately, there are also many holiday resorts in Austria where you can relax in front of a beautiful backdrop. These resorts are easy to reach by bus, train or shuttle:

Werfenweng

Werfenweng in Salzburger Land is not only the perfect place for a holiday in 2020/2021 because of its idyllic nature, but the municipality is also perfect for adventurers and active holidaymakers who want to take care of the environment at the same time. The place stands out for its environmentally friendly and sustainable tourism. If you fancy a bike ride or a hike with llamas, you don't need to rent a car to get to Werfenweng. The village can be easily reached by train. Destination stations are Bischofshofen, Pfarrwerfen or Werden. There is a shuttle service on site that will take you to your accommodation. And there are also plenty of other means of transport in the village, from e-bikes to horse-drawn carriages.

Zillertal

The Zillertal in Tyrol is full of beautiful resorts like Gerlos, Mayrhofen, Tux or Fügen-Kaltenbach in the Hochzillertal. The region has a dense network of public transport. Whether you are coming from Germany, Austria or Switzerland, you can also easily travel by train and enjoy the beautiful resorts of the region.
By the way, a good tip is also the Zillertal Activcard, with which you have free entry to various pools and unlimited use of most public transport.

Weissensee

Weissensee, like Werfenweng, belongs to the Alpine Pearls association, a cooperation of five Alpine countries to promote mobility. Those arriving by train get off in Greifenburg, from where there is a station shuttle to the booked accommodation. There are also hiking buses on site that take holidaymakers to the mountain railway and to the main starting points for hikes. E-bikes are also available for hire, as are electric cars for those who can't completely do without a vehicle.

Neukirchen am Großvenediger

The Salzburg community of Neukirchen am Großvenediger lies in the middle of the Hohe Tauern. It is also one of the Alpine Pearls and can be optimally reached by train and bus. There is a national park taxi, a Tauern bike taxi, buses, a local train, a shuttle service and the mountain railways on site. Mobility is therefore taken care of. So the car can be left at home in the garage.

Rax

The mountain massif on the Styrian-Lower Austrian border is not only a popular day trip destination, but also an idyllic place to spend a holiday. Whether at the Ottohaus refuge or the Raxalm mountain inn. Here you can enjoy your mountain holiday to the full. They are easy to reach with the Rax cable car and you can also get to the valley station of the cable car without a car. Simply take the train to Payerbach/Reichenau station and then the bus to the station and your holiday can begin.
