Incredible! This Austrian Region Pays Holidaymakers for Their Travel Expenses

Prices are rising, and traveling to the world's most beautiful regions is now a luxury that not everyone can afford. The Tyrolean region around the Seefeld plateau wants to counteract now. It pays a flat rate to every vacationer who comes to visit.

April 28, 2023

High up at almost 2,000 meters, between the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountains, lies the Austrian village of Seefeld. People like to come here to ski in winter, to hike in summer, to enjoy themselves and have a good time. But Seefeld is also experiencing slumps when it comes to visitor numbers. And that's hardly surprising. During the Corona pandemic, travel was almost completely absent; since then, people have been more cautious and circumspect. In addition, prices are rising almost everywhere.

However, like many other places in the popular vacation destination of Austria, Seefeld is also dependent on tourists. That's why the region has now come up with a special goodie. It pays the travel costs of every vacationer - as long as supplies last.

It pays off to be fast

60,000 euros - that's the budget Seefeld has set aside to help vacationers with their bookings. The campaign is valid between June 1 and November 30, 2023. Anyone who wants to travel to the beautiful high plateau during this period can expect up to 150 euros in reimbursement per person. Provided that the journey is environmentally friendly by train or Flixbus and that the stay lasts at least 5 nights. Both, the municipality's tourism portal and the locally based hotels are involved in the mobility offensive.

Because bookings made in advance for the above travel period are also taken into account, the budget is shrinking fast. Currently, around two thirds of the 60,000 euros are still available.

More sustainability

"We want to give our guests an incentive to leave their own car at home and travel to our region by bus & train. Combined with a longer stay, we can thus demonstrate potential for CO2 savings and an important contribution to greater sustainability," explains Elias Walser, Managing Director of the Seefeld Region Tourist Board proudly. So the action has primarily environmentally focused reasons.

Beautiful Seefeld

Seefeld is located just 10 kilometers from the German border and is therefore especially popular with Austria's neighbors. In addition, Seefeld can score with its diversity, both in winter and in summer. The area is ideal for outdoor sports enthusiasts and peace seekers alike. Whoever comes here can be sure of an incomparable alpine experience.
