For canoe lovers: the Black Lake (Crno Jezero Lake) in Durmitor National Park

With 18 beautiful mountain and glacier lakes alone, Durmitor National Park is absolutely worth seeing. The largest of them is the Crno Jerzero Lake, in German "Black Lake". When the deep green spruces, firs and pines on its shores cast dark shadows on the mirror-smooth surface, it becomes clear where the picturesque lake gets its name from. But Crno Jezero can also shimmer in deep blue or intense green tones, depending on the amount of precipitation and sunlight. In summer, the water in the Black Lake warms up to 20 degrees, providing welcome refreshment after a strenuous hike. However, most visitors to the national park enjoy the beauty of the lake by canoe or kayak, which can be rented on site.

The "Black Lake" is ideal for an unforgettable canoe tour.

For adrenaline junkies: canyoning in Nevidio Canyon

Steep mountain slopes, narrow gorges - thanks to spectacular nature, canyoning in Montenegro is a must-do outdoor activity and has even achieved cult status. Anyone who is looking for a thrill, has no fear of heights and enjoys climbing should try the adventure of canyoning in Nevidio Canyon. The canyon, which is about 1700 meters long and 125 meters deep, is part of the Mala Komarnica, a river that rises at the foot of the southern Durmitor Mountains. Nevidio translates as "place you can't see". This already reveals the adventure that canyoning fans are in for here. At the "point of no return" at the latest, the only thing left to do is to look ahead, turning back is impossible. Only by jumping into a water basin you can get out of the canyon again. The tour through the canyon is only allowed in company of a local guide. Besides Nevidio Canyon, there are many other canyons in Montenegro, such as Škurda Canyon or Međuriječje Canyon not far from the sea between Bar and Ulcinj. Canyoning is a refreshing adventure: the water, which is mostly of drinking water quality by the way, only has a temperature of a good ten degrees, even in the summer heat.

If you want something a little wilder, you can try canyoning in Nevidio Canyon.

For sailors: the southernmost fjord in Europe - the Bay of Kotor

The breathtaking Bay of Kotor in Montenegro is also known as the southernmost fjord in Europe. It impresses with its dreamlike symphony of rugged cliffs, some over 1000 meters high, small settlements at its feet and the emerald green glittering Adriatic Sea. For many, the Bay of Kotor is probably the most beautiful spot on the Adriatic coast: ideal terrain for sailing enthusiasts. No wonder, Kotor itself was just voted one of the top 10 most beautiful cities in Europe. A particularly attractive sailing trip is the approximately four nautical miles from Herceg Novi to Kotor, but also trips along the picturesque coast to Orahovac or Donji Stoliv remain unforgettable.

Perfect for sailors: the Bay of Kotor.

For rafting adventurers: the Tara Gorge

Rafting in Montenegro knows only one destination, the river Tara! It offers the ultimate rafting adventure and is considered by rafting enthusiasts to be one of the best in all of Europe. At 140 kilometers, the turquoise blue Tara is the longest river in Montenegro and one of the largest on the continent. No wonder its mighty force has also carved Europe's largest gorge into the rugged rocks. In some places, the Grand Canyon of Europe is a massive 1300 meters deep! In summer, when the Tara is not quite so raging, is the best time for a rubber dinghy ride. The cool water is even of drinking water quality. On its last 30 kilometres the Tara Gorge is the deepest, here the rafting adventurers have to overcome the most rapids and the highest waterfalls. The ride down the Tara takes you past waterfalls and wild springs, showcasing the beauty of the Tara Gorge in all its glory. Stops for swimming, picnicking and photography create downtime from the foaming waves.

117 beaches with a total length of 73 kilometres - everyone will find enough space for relaxed, undisturbed sunbathing on the picturesque Adriatic beaches of Montenegro. The longest sandy beach with a length of 13 kilometres is in Ulcinj. During the summer months, kitesurfers from all over the world meet here to dance with their kites in the brisk Maestral sea wind (5 to 10 metres/second). Those who want to practice kite taming can take a 12-hour kitesurfing course.

Queen's beach (Kraljeva plaža) near Chanj in the north of Montenegro was the favourite beach of Queen Milena. It gets five stars just for its charming location, fine sand and crystal clear turquoise sea.
