The joy is great: In Austria holiday apartments, hotels and restaurants have been open again since 19 May. This means that the run on holiday accommodation for Whitsun and the summer holiday has also begun. The Salzkammergut is a particularly popular holiday region.

Dream destination: Salzkammergut

Numerous Austrians and Germans are planning their Whitsun and summer holidays in Austria this year. Especially regions that can score with a beautiful lakeside landscape are highly in vogue. There are also plenty of these in Austria; such as the Salzkammergut. Because there, in the imposing foothills of the Alps, a total of 76 fantastic lakes await. Even the emperor and his court spent their summer holidays in the heart of the country, where mighty mountains meet idyllic waters and charming little towns. Another highlight: the UNESCO World Heritage Site Hallstatt.

Active holidaymakers will also find their happiness in the Salzkammergut! The Dachstein, the Tote Gebirge and the Sengsen and Höllengebirge mountains form the impressive skyline of the region. Hikers and mountaineers can let off steam on over 4,000 kilometres of marked routes and usually have the glittering lake landscape in view.

Accommodation already heavily booked

In many regions of Austria, however, the choice of available accommodation that can be booked online is already severely limited. This is also confirmed by a current data analysis by DS Destination Solutionsa company that specializes in the marketing of holiday homes and apartments. St. Wolfgang am Wolfgangsee is the most popular summer resort, followed by Weyregg am Attersee. The holiday resorts of Mondsee, Bad Aussee, Abersee, St. Lorenz am Mondsee and Grundlsee also enjoy great popularity. In addition to the lake regions, bookings for regions such as the Ötztal, the Tannheimer Tal, the Bregenzerwald and the Wilder Kaiser are picking up noticeably.

For May, DS Destination Solutions still has 55 percent of vacancies. It could be tight for the coveted summer months of July and August. In July, 51 percent are still available. In August, only just under half of the holiday properties in the portfolio are still bookable, at 49 percent.
