2. a road trip through the southwest of the USA

Length: approx. 3,300 km
Duration: 3-4 weeks
Best time to visit: April to October

You should have much more time at the other end of the world. Because in the USA, road trips through the southwest have always attracted countless holidaymakers. It all starts in Los Angeles, a highlight in itself. From there you take the world-famous Pacific Highway and drive along the coast to San Diego. A city known for its beautiful beaches, amusement parks and art galleries. Then follows a short trip into the past; for those who travel to Palm Springs immediately remember the stylish 50s. The journey continues towards Joshua Tree National Park, which is a must visit. The desert landscape takes you all the way to the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley. Then it's slowly back to the starting point, but before that, glittering Las Vegas is on the way. After the casino hustle and bustle, it's back to nature in its purest form, as the Sequoia National Park follows, which impresses with its imposing sequoia trees. From there it is not far to beautiful San Francisco. The idyllic Highway 1 then leads back to Los Angeles.

3. a dream route through the Rocky Mountains in Canada

Length: approx. 400 km
Duration: 1 week
Best time to visit: June to September

Canada has many natural wonders to offer. But one of the most beautiful is probably the route through the Rocky Mountains, which is probably one of the most spectacular road trips in the world. The route starts in Calgary and leads via the impressive Icefields Parkway to Banff National Park. There - at the foot of the Rockies - also stretches the dreamlike Lake Louise. An unforgettable panoramic route then leads along the mountain scenery. The Icefields Parkway measures almost 270 kilometres, of which one moment is more beautiful than the next. It is advisable to plan enough time to stop every now and then to explore the magnificent surroundings. There is Mistaya Canyon, Peyto Lake, Athabasca Falls and the impressive Athabasca Glacier to discover. Then comes the town of Jasper, where another 13,000 km2 national park awaits.

4. from the Caribbean beach to the rainforest in Costa Rica

Length: approx. 1,000 km
Travel time: 2-3 weeks
Best time to visit: December to March

If you're planning a road trip through the Central American country, it's best to rent a sturdy off-road vehicle to be prepared for any natural conditions. Many start their adventure in San José and then drive to the west, to the Barra Honda National Park. Then comes the next strike: the Palo Verde National Park. There, one exchanges the rental car for a boat in order to get close to the flora and fauna of the country. The next highlight is already in Tenorio Volcano National Park, where a swim in the spectacular waterfall of the turquoise-blue Río Celeste awaits. Fans of the rainforest will be amazed: animal reserves, waterfalls, thermal springs and chocolate and coffee plantations await guests on the stretch between Fortuna and Puerto Limon. But the city on the Caribbean offers one thing above all: fantastic beaches. These can be found above all in the Cahuita National Park. On the way back to the starting point, a short stop in Cartago, a place at the foot of the over 3330 meter high volcano Irazú, is recommended.
