These are the countries that adventure seekers should visit

...and action!

7 May 2021

The desire to finally explore new countries and cultures again is great! Especially adventurous travel lovers are drawn to faraway places to experience the thrill first hand. Those who prefer to spend an action-packed holiday rather than comfortably relaxing at the Beach to sunbathe, the following five destinations are just right for you.

1. adventurous hiking in Mexico

A foray through the jungle, abseiling in a waterfall or a hike on an active volcano? What sounds like the script of an action movie for many is pure relaxation for some. Adrenaline junkies feel particularly at home in Mexico - because there is a new adventure waiting around every corner. At Cascada Tixhiñu in the Querétaro region, north of Mexico City, an impressive waterfall is waiting to be explored. In the southeast of the country, the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve, named after the ruins of the Mayan city of Calakmul, stretches out amidst the jungle. It is still home to wild animals such as jaguars, pumas and tigers. Another highlight awaits on the west coast: the Volcán de Colima, one of the most active volcanoes in all of Mexico.

2. exploring the end of the world in Argentina

Argentina is home to the southernmost inhabited part of the world: Tierra del Fuego. On this group of islands at the tip of South America, the two countries Chile and Argentina share the record of the southernmost cities in the world. From Ushuaia, you can even travel to Antarctica by ship. But the other end of Argentina also has something in store for the adventurous, as there is a desert running through the landscape. As it is particularly windy in the Calingasta Valley, holidaymakers like to go there to try out land yachting. This involves drifting across the desert sands in vehicles with sails that look like small sailboats with wheels, using only the power of the wind.

3rd adrenaline kick in Cape Town

If you are looking for excitement and action, you should visit Cape Town. The capital of South Africa is located between impressive mountain landscapes and a beautiful sea. Hikes to Lions Head and Table Mountain are popular, but there's also plenty to do in the water: shark cage diving is a popular outdoor activity. If that is a bit too dangerous for you, you could try paragliding. Signal Hill is particularly suitable for this. To get closer to the flora and fauna of the fascinating region, a Cape Canopy Tour in the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve recommended.

4th Amazon Tour in Bolivia

Many people associate Bolivia with the Salar de Uyuni, but the country has so much more to offer than the famous salt lake. Near La Paz you can explore the mystical rainforest or take a trip to the wetlands of the Amazon region. There you move around on boats and have an excellent view of colorful bird species, monkeys, crocodiles and even dolphins.

5. in search of polar bears in spitsbergen

Not quite as tropical but no less adventurous is the Arctic archipelago of Spitsbergen. The most popular means of transport there: snowmobiles. Many people who visit Spitsbergen go in search of polar bears. The island offers numerous expeditions for adventure seekers to the east coast to observe the fascinating animals. There's also a good chance of catching a glimpse of the magical Northern Lights and getting a visit from reindeer as well as polar bears. The area is not for the faint-hearted, however, as temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees are not uncommon.
