Travel Trend- Zero Waste Travel

This is how to travel without creating waste.

5 February 2021

The concept of sustainability is also more important than ever when it comes to travel. So-called zero waste travel is becoming the Trend and manifests itself over the next few years. Travel without creating a waste? That's how!

What does Zero Waste Travel actually mean?

The goal of Zero Waste Travel is to combat the environmentally damaging effects of humans on our planet and its ecosystem by minimizing waste and maximizing recycling. Traveling often involves using a lot of plastics and disposable items, which can be a big challenge for sustainable globetrotters.

But with a few simple tips you can avoid unnecessary waste when travelling:

1

Reusable travel utensils

Packing smart is an essential aspect of traveling. With your own zero waste travel set, you can easily say no to single-use plastics. Small travel containers and bamboo products such as toothbrush, hairbrush or cutlery are perfect for this. Instead of coffee-to-go, have your reusable thermal bottle refilled instead. By refilling your own travel bottle, you not only save plenty on plastic bottle consumption, but also a lot of money.

All the little things you need when travelling are already available in the environmentally friendly reusable version.
2

Digital instead of paper

Whether it's a boarding pass, train ticket or supermarket receipt, it's easy to save on paper waste in particular. Instead of printing out documents and cards, nowadays everything can be downloaded digitally to your smartphone or tablet. Hotel bookings as well as entrance tickets that you have already bought in advance can be used paperless via app already offline.

3

Waste reduction during transport

Avoid snacks offered during transport. It is better to prepare your own provisions in advance and stow them in your hand luggage. Wax paper or cloth napkins are best for storing these. However, it is important to find out in advance from the respective transport company about the food regulations on board.

4

Helping to keep the place clean

Zero Waste Travel also means not forgetting to protect the environment at your destination. In the accommodation, for example, do without the daily towel change and use the soap you brought yourself. Pick up litter lying around on the beach or in the city and dispose of it properly. Especially as a tourist, you should treat the holiday destination respectfully and carefully - after all, you want to leave a good impression and even act as a role model.
