Despite renovation: the French history remains in the premises.

On the trail of Napoleon III.

The Hôtel du Palais in Biarritz on the French Atlantic coast was built in 1854 by Napoleon III for his wife Eugénie de Montijo. After more than 100 years, however, it was time for a renovation. The focus was also on this unique historical background. The extraordinary splendour of the property was retained, while at the same time certain elements were modernised in terms of the guest experience. In particular, the hotel's unique furnishings, rare paintings and precious tapestries bear witness to the palace's history.

"We are delighted to welcome guests to our exceptional Hôtel du Palais in Biarritz. Whether staying at the hotel, enjoying a drink at the Napoleon III bar or lunch with the family at our fine dining restaurant La Rotonde, guests can expect truly magical experiences," said Alessandro Cresta, General Manager of Hôtel du Palais. "During the renovation, it was of utmost importance for us to preserve the rich heritage and identity of the Palace, making it the perfect destination to visit in Biarritz and the Basque Country. We look forward to inspiring our guests to the freedom of creating once-in-a-lifetime experiences."

The rooms combine history and modernity

The Hôtel du Palais has 86 rooms and 56 suites ranging in size from 28 to 100 square meters, furnished in the elegant Second Empire style, reflecting the original architecture and history of the palace. The design of the guest rooms on the top floor was inspired by cruise ships and exudes a particularly maritime ambience with windows like portholes.

The exclusive rooms combine luxury with elegance.

Gourmet restaurants with a focus on regional products

La Rotonde restaurant offers refined and locally inspired dishes from the French Basque Country. Here, the team around the new chef Aurélien Largeau creates culinary experiences with surprising creations that will be remembered for a long time. In the Napoleon III Bar, guests can relax in a private atmosphere and choose from a select range of gin, whiskey and vintage champagne.

The gourmet restaurant offers a brilliant view of the sea.

Experiences to feel good

The 3,000-square-foot, four-floor Imperial Spa is a peaceful oasis with an indoor pool, whirlpool, hammam, and sauna. Outside, a seawater pool overlooks the ocean. Guests can relax perfectly in the famous waterfront cabanas. They each have sun loungers, towels, pool as well as beach access and a private changing room, shower, toilet and free Wi-Fi. Refreshing drinks and meals are served to guests upon request.

The Hôtel du Palais is open from now until 1 November 2021. After completion of the final phase of renovation, it is expected to be fully operational again in the summer of 2022.
