These 5 mountain huts in the Alps are real Insta-gold

As an expert for travel in alpine regions, the tour operator SnowTrex has now surveyed the most popular mountain huts in the Alpine region.

17 October 2023

Fantastic weather, clear visibility and impressive nature attract more and more people to the mountains. They have long since ceased to come only for skiing. Whether on mountain bikes or hiking, walking or running: The Alps are more popular than ever. One reason is certainly the fantastically located mountain huts in the Alps, inns and shelters. The tour operator SnowTrex now determined the most popular among them. The methodology behind it was a simple one. The company evaluated which mountain huts in the Alps were mentioned particularly frequently with a hashtag on Instagram.

Good to Know: The iconic hut is open every year from late June to late September. It's located at the foot of the Paternkofel and offers unrestricted view of the Three Peaks. Since it's only open in summer and the operating family Reider receives several tens of thousands of e-mail requests per year, reservations are only possible via the online tool. Cash payment.

Good to Know: The two huts in the Brenta Dolomites are just a few meters apart. So one is usually also on the picture when the other is mentioned. They are located at 2,272 meters and are open from end of June to end of September. From here it's possible to climb some challenging peaks. Or even tackle more difficult via ferrata.

Good to Know: The Coburger Hütte is located in the Tyrolean Ehrwald at 1920 meters and is open until early October. Mountain sports enthusiasts make their way from here to the idyllic Seebensee and the Drachensee. The view over the Sebensee with the Zugspitze massif reflected in the water is at least as insta-gold worthy as the mountain hut in the Alps. Mountain bike fans in particular should put this refuge on their bucket list. Because many exciting tours are possible from here.

Good to Know: Located above the Falzarego Pass halfway between Val Badia and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Rifugio Lagazuoi is one of those mountain refuges in the Alps that has a beautiful panoramic terrace with views of the Dolomites. If you want, you can make your way on foot to the refuge. Comfortably, however, it also goes up with the Lagazuoi gondola. Since the hut celebrated its opening in 1965, it has been continuously managed by the Pompanin family. Meanwhile, the third generation is at work. Here you can stay overnight on the one hand, but on the other hand there's also a bar and a restaurant. Even a sauna barrel is available.

Good to Know: With almost 30,000 posts, the Olpererhütte is the most popular mountain hut in the Alps - at least according to Instagram. It's located at over 2,300 meters in the Zillertal Alps. It's usually open between the beginning of June and the beginning of October. The panorama is impressive: In addition to the Schlegeisspeicher, one of the largest reservoirs in Austria, it's of course the imposing mountain peaks that beguile. Around 150 meters from the hut you'll find the Zillertal suspension bridge. It's a star in its own right on Instagram. If you want one of the iconic photos of yourself on the bridge, you actually have to queue up for it by now.
