The mecca of the famous

Hotel La Palma will be the Oetker Collection's redesigned incarnation of the original hotel that was home to renowned artists, poets, writers and musicians from around the world for so many years. When it reopens, it will once again become the focal point of the island's social life.

The Oetker Collection is pleased to announce that the Hotel La Palma in Capri, will join the group's portfolio of Masterpiece Hotels. The planned opening is scheduled for April 2022. The transformation of the 50-room and suite hotel in the vibrant center of Capri has taken great care to reinterpret this iconic 1822 hotel, honoring the history of the island's first and oldest hotel. True to its mission of creating special emotional connections in special places, the Oetker Collection's first Italian Masterpiece Hotel aims to reflect the island's unique attitude to life known as "Dolce Vita".

The hotel is owned by Reuben Brothers and represents the latest milestone in their European development activities. The Reuben Brothers acquisition also includes the legendary La Taverna Anema e Core nightclub, a popular celebrity hot spot on the island, which is also part of the building complex.

In the new Hotel La Palma the Italian "Dolce Vita" is lived.

Set The Scene

As for the other Masterpiece Hotels of the Oetker Collection, sincere and warm hospitality shall be at the forefront of Hotel La Palma. Designed for the modern traveller, the hotel will be experienced as a timeless and elegant retreat on this mythical island. It will literally be the first house on the place again and the address to see and be seen.

During the renovation, the number of rooms in the hotel will be drastically reduced from 80 to 50 rooms - including 18 suites - all with their own balcony or terrace. Renowned architects were recruited for the interior design. Francesco Delogu of Delogu Architects, Rome, is responsible for the room interiors and lobby, and Adam Tihany and Alessia Genove of Tihany Design, New York - one of the world's leading and multi-award-winning designers in the hospitality sector - for the restaurant, pool, spa and beach club.

Located in the heart of Capri town, just a stone's throw from the Piazzetta, Hotel La Palma is the ideal starting point to visit the most famous sights of the island: I Giardini di Augusto, Via Krupp, La Certosa and the imposing Faraglioni. Even the "Grotta Azzurra" can be quickly reached from the hotel.

The luxurious rooms were designed with the help of renowned architects.

A feast for the senses

Of course, "La Dolce Vita" is also reflected culinary in the hotel La Palma. And so none other than chef Gennaro Esposito, who has made a name for himself far beyond the borders of Campania with his 2-Michelin-starred restaurant Torre del Saracino in over 23 years, could be won for the gastronomic management of Gennaro's restaurant, bar and terrace. Inspired by the simplicity and purism of Capri's cooking in the 1950s, Gennaro's manifests a timeless romance of nature and culture, offering guests unpretentious and authentic Mediterranean cuisine. Gennaro's presents itself in a contemporary design, lively and exciting. Here, people eschew formality and celebrate the spirit of Capri's cuisine. The adjacent legendary nightclub La Taverna Anema e Core adds to this exuberant atmosphere. A breathtaking view of Capri Village and the sea is offered by the rooftop restaurant & bar Bianca. Open late into the night, this is the location to get lost in place and time. In homage to the island's golden 20s, Hotel La Palma also has a brand new pool deck and bar that leaves nothing to be desired.

Chef Gennaro Esposito is responsible for the exclusive dishes.

To the beach

Just a short drive to Capri's south coast, guests of Hotel La Palma are offered La Palma Beach Club. Elegant and lively, located on Marina Piccola, amidst arguably the most popular beaches and restaurants on the island, this is where fabulous people come and go to enjoy a perfect day at the beach. Whether it's for an extended lunch or a trendy hangout for a sundowner in the evening, Gennaro Esposito's casual cuisine, exclusive location, cool ambiance and most importantly, dazzling crowd will make La Palma Beach Club the island's hot spot. Back at the hotel, guests can expect an indulgent spa with three treatment rooms, including a couples' suite, a Finnish sauna, steam room, ice shower, relaxation room and fitness area. Three exclusive boutiques complete the offer.

Whether on the beach, in the spa area or in the bathroom: the hotel promises pure relaxation.

Historical heritage

Founded in 1822, Hotel La Palma - formerly known as Locanda Pagano - is the oldest hotel on Capri. The original owner, notary Giuseppe Pagano, created here a place for artists from all over the world, similar to the so-called "salons". In return for accommodation, the artists offered their talents and works, the hotel advanced to become the "artists' hotel" and thus the home of an international collective inspired by the genius loci and the family atmosphere of this particular hotel. When the Hotel La Palma reopens on its 200th birthday, guests will once again experience this hospitality so typical of Italy.

Dr. Timo Gruenert, CEO of the Oetker Collection: "I can't imagine anything more exciting than the prospect of opening a true Masterpiece Hotel in one of the most beautiful and glamorous destinations in the world, the island of Capri. It will pay homage to La Dolce Vita and the heritage of this legendary place - the first hotel on Capri. With a reinterpretation of the iconic hotel, Hotel La Palma is set to once again become the focal point of the island's vibrant scene. As with all our Masterpiece Hotels, we are dedicated to providing a sense of warmth and hospitality, closely intertwined with our family values. We want our guests to feel at home and take home a sense of belonging."

Jamie Reuben of Reuben Brothers: "We are thrilled that Hotel La Palma is joining the prestigious hotel portfolio of the Oetker Collection, a hotel collection that has long set the highest standards for upscale hospitality. When we acquired the property, we recognized the potential to create a truly world-class hotel - a vision shared by the Oetker Collection. We have no doubt that Hotel La Palma will fit in alongside some of the most legendary hotels in the world. Oetker Collection will breathe new life into this iconic hotel."
