A mountain retreat in the Kitzbühel Alps

The name of the Kraftalm also says it all: wake up in stylish rooms in the middle of the Tyrolean mountains, recharge your batteries and feel the alpine nature. The sister duo Marion and Evelyn have created a true feel-good oasis at 1355 metres above Itter in Tyrol. The fresh mountain water of the own house springs invite you to swim and the infinity pool (which is filled with heated spring water) offers a dreamlike view of the Wilder Kaiser.

"We probably don't quite pass for a classic Almhütterl anymore," Marion says with a laugh, "but we're many meters in altitude and mountain moments away from a big hotel." The mountain refuge with a far-reaching view is home to 29 rooms, a restaurant and panoramic alpine wellness. For sporty guests, the hotel also has some activities ready: the choice is between hiking, biking and mountain sports.

From old to new

The hotel is located in a place where a ski lodge used to serve. But there is no trace of that - or of the heated après-ski atmosphere. Everything points to relaxation, tranquillity and recharging your batteries. The furnishings of the rooms provide a lively contrast to the straight lines of the house. Old and new meet here and communicate curiously with each other: rough concrete meets linen and wood, natural tones leave plenty of room for the mountain idyll outside, which streams in through large glass surfaces.

For breakfast you have a view of the Hohe Salve, for a sauna you have a view of the Wilder Kaiser. In the evening, after sunset, the lights flash up from the valley.

Alpine Tyrolean cuisine made by Evelyn

Not only in times like these is it a luxury to have 22 hectares of forest and alpine pasture around you. As well as meadows for a picnic and for the cows that provide fresh milk right next door. Even the breakfast eggs from "Söller Wanderhühner" come from the family, like the recipe for the apple strudel, which grandma baked like this 40 years ago. The Kraftalm is new, but some things remain just as they are. Culinary chef Evelyn knows from a young age exactly which recipe must endure and which may be modified in a modern way. She cooks for the guests in an open kitchen in the middle of the restaurant - with regional ingredients.
