Already on the occasion of the inauguration of his new showroom in Milan last November, the designer announced his intention to open the first Philipp Plein Hotel. Now it seems to be getting more and more serious. And an actual opening date is getting closer. The German, founder of the Philipp Plein International Group with the brands Phlipp Plein, Plein Sport and Billionaire is thus venturing his first steps in the hospitality industry.

From haute couture to hotel

Plein, who first studied law after graduation and then began designing furniture, originally made a name for himself as a manufacturer of bags and accessories made from leftover exotic leathers. Finally, in 2004, he stepped onto the fashion runway with his first collection. His first collection was characterized by vintage military jackets. He had these embroidered with skulls made of Swarovski crystals. The skull, still part of the Plein brand identity, dominates the shop windows and showrooms of the more than 80 outlets worldwide. Most likely, it will also adorn the entrance of the first Philipp Plein Hotel.

However, Plein is not yet revealing much about his hotel project. What is certain is that it will open in mid-2022 in Milan. The home for the hotel is Palazzo Melzi d'Eril. The neoclassical palazzo is located on Via Manin. Originally conceived in the 18th century by Giocondo Albertolli, it was once a residence. Some 200 years later, the palazzo housed Spazio Krizia; Milanese designer Mariuccia Mandelli. Last April, Venetian entrepreneur Manuel Faleschini bought the property. It will remain in his ownership. Plein will be the manager of the 18-room and suite hotel. It will house a cinema, a bistro and a restaurant, in addition to a club that doubles as a disco.

On the pulse of time

But the new Philipp Plein Hotel is not the only thing with which the designer proves that he still has what it takes to be the "enfant terrible" of the fashion world. In fact, he recently caused a stir by becoming the first luxury brand to accept over 20 different cryptocurrencies. In addition, Plein bought a property in Decentraland. This is a virtual world in the metaverse. The digital property was acquired for about $1.4 million, Forbes reports.
