Aman: Bootcamp For Your Inner Peace?

The search for inner peace and tranquility is probably known to most people. Aman's Journey to Peace retreats are designed to support this.

Peace - actually a simple word, but it comes with a multi-layered meaning. Particularly in turbulent times like these, it's also a value that is becoming increasingly important. Moreover, it's one that is deeply anchored in the DNA of the luxury hotel brand Aman. This is also reflected in the brand's name. Aman comes from Sanskrit and means just that. Peace. Then, it's, of course, only obvious that they focus on it in their wellness program. For example, with the two Journey to Peace retreats.

The goal of these spiritual stays is to show guests the way to inner peace. They are to rediscover serenity. They are supported by the renowned Buddhist monk Master Geshe YongDong (Geshe La). He was born in Tibet in 1969. He entered the monastery when he was only 13 years old. As a scholar, here, he was awarded the title of Rajampa Geshe. This is the highest degree that one can achieve in a monastery. Among his teachers was the 14th Dalai Lama.

Today he teaches YungDrung Bon Buddhism and his Geshe La philosophy. For more than 20 years he has been a welcome guest as a teacher in many spiritual centers and universities worldwide. For many years now, the author and teacher has also been a mindfulness trainer and staff member at Aman. He intuitively and lovingly facilitates the two Journey to Peace retreats. He teaches his guests patience, tolerance, focus and a better way of dealing with fears and worries.

Time out in the (big city) oasis

The participants of the first Journey to Peace retreat, which took place at the end of October, were suitably enthusiastic. It took place at the Aman New York, which opened just last year. Themed Living Mindfully, it was all about finding the peace you seek in everyday life. In addition to workshops on healing anger and mantra meditation classes, the program also included tailored training sessions. A 90-minute signature spa treatment, lunch with Geshe La, and daily breakfast at Arva Restaurant were also included during the three-day retreat.

The Amangiri in Utah has been chosen as the second home for such a retreat. It'll take place from November 3 to 6, 2023, under the motto Awaken the Mind. And here, too, mindfulness training takes on a major role. But also discovering the nature of the mind, calming group classes and guided meditations are on the program. You'll learn how to let go with chants and breath work.

New trend, old need

Letting go of superfluous things is easy anyway because of the barren desert environment and the rough nature around the Amangiri. But with guidance by Geshe La and in the group, you'll get there, however, more easily. The three nights comprehensive retreat includes full board including non-alcoholic beverages, a 90-minute group yoga class, a singing bowl and meditation session, airport transfers and a 90-minute spa session.

The need and search for inner peace and tranquility is ancient. It's the root of numerous relaxation techniques and many spiritual currents. Even yoga has something to do with it. Whereas in the past, it was frowned upon to take time off - think of times when women were mainly busy taking care of everything except themselves, and when the traditional role model did not allow men to show any weaknesses - a return to the inner self is now taking place.

Aman's Journey to Peace retreats set a new trend. Namely, that of a stylish break, a luxurious time-out to devote oneself entirely to the here and now, to let go and practice mindfulness. The alreadyhigh demand for the first retreat has shown how great the need of people is in this regard. Already now, interested people should therefore keep an eye out for the dates in 2024. We'll, of course, let you know .
