The best restaurants in Ibiza

Night owls aren't the only ones in for a celebration on Spain's trendy island – it's a party for the palate as well. Ibiza's best restaurants will whisk you away to local and (inter)national delights. ¡Que aprofiti!

12 July 2022

Ibiza is much more than just Spain's trendy party island: it offers numerous activities, beautiful beaches – and a diverse culinary scene. This is not only due to today's jet set. The Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs and Spaniards had already left their mark on the island, brought various cooking methods and new products such as oil and wine ashore, and began to extract Ibiza's white gold – salt – from the salt flats. The culinary wealth of facets is still celebrated today - and continues to evolve.

How to eat in Ibiza

The typical local cuisine is simple, but extremely aromatic and includes – it almost goes without saying – numerous seafood based dishes. These include bullit de peix, a fish stew with potatoes and aioli sauce. But meat dishes such as arroz de matanzas with pork sobrasada sausage are also popular.

Ibiza für Foodies

In addition to traditional Ibizan dishes, numerous international cuisines have found their way to the island in recent years. So if you're craving Greek, Japanese or Italian, you don't have to look very far: the variety that awaits gourmands on Ibiza is more than delicious – it's worth savoring.

The "angel of the night," as Laylah calls itself, is run by Olivia Fleury and Oren Heknin – and the result is something to behold and taste: the chic restaurant serves eclectic delicacies such as fried eggplant on puffed buckwheat with Greek yogurt or rockfish ceviche with challah bread. A look at the cocktail menu is just as great as a look at the surroundings: Laylah is one of the island's indisputable "it" places.

Es Tragón in Sant Antoni de Portmany is a real surprise: at the small villa in the middle of a fragrant pine grove, Chef Álvaro Sanz Clavijo, who has worked in numerous Michelin restaurants around the world, combines Mediterranean cuisine with various international influences. The results are creative as well as delicious meals, for which Es Tragón was awarded a Michelin star in 2020.

JUL'S leans towards the other side of the Mediterranean Sea, all the way to Greece, to offer its guests a top-class culinary experience. The successful mezze dishes by chef Christos Fotos are a real treat – and the ambience at the elegant restaurant with its atmospheric garden is lovely as well. Must-try: JUL'S takes great pride in good drinks, so you should definitely take a look at the cocktail menu.

A true classic: Since 2004, the family restaurant La Paloma has been inviting guests to its homey, colorful atmosphere. Italian dishes with internationally inspired spices are served by chef Prasuna, who learned to cook from her mother in Tuscany. The menu is concise, but extremely tasty – especially since the focus is on regional products and traditional Italian ingredients.

You can see all the way to Formentera from Roto. The chic restaurant in the marina of Eivissa  offers much more than just panoramic views. On the one hand, there is the trendy atmosphere of the restaurant with its open spaces and the large terrace on the waterfront (and believe us when we tell you, at Roto they know how to party). On the other, there's the menu, which features traditional Latin American dishes as well as fine cocktails. Just fantastic!
