With over 150 years of history, Maximilianstube is one of the most popular addresses in idyllic Altmünster am Traunsee, south of Gmunden. Anyone looking for traditional culinary delights is definitely in the right place here. But the owners are always striving to go beyond the boundaries of the tried and tested classics, offering creative new interpretations so that regular guests never get bored.

Geiger Alm

The ambience is warm and authentic, the cuisine bold and innovative. It's no coincidence that the family-run gourmet restaurant in Altaussee at the foot of the Loser has been awarded four toques. Since 2018, sommelier Eva-Maria and head chef Dominik Utassy have been creating culinary taste sensations with plenty of sophistication in this traditional establishment. The menu is refreshingly straightforward - after all, it's based exclusively on high-quality, regional ingredients. However, the wine list is all the more extensive, combining Austrian and international fine wines.

Tanglberg

Four decades ago, gallery owner Erich Spitzbart transformed the former Bürgerspital into a stimulating place for contemporary art and fine dining, which still attracts gourmets to Vorchdorf near Gmunden today. Traditional Alpine fare is left to the competition here - top French cuisine has always been on the menu at Tangelberg. With foie gras, lobster and mille-feuille with yolk cream and truffles, Ricki Staudinger proves that the Upper Austrian culinary scene can also keep up with international finesse.

The name says it all. With authentic materials, light-colored wood and a direct view of Lake Traunsee, the restaurant under the management of four-toque chef Lukas Nagl, which is actually built on a boathouse, scores not only with a great ambience, but also with fabulous, award-winning cuisine as part of the equally fine hotel: Traunsee.
