These cities in Europe are real insider tips

No crowded beaches or places. Just enjoy the tranquility and beauty of other cultures!

27 August 2021

We humans love to discover new places and cultures. And because that's what pretty much everyone does, there are countless cities and villages that are simply hopelessly crowded. Those who prefer to enjoy peace and privacy do not necessarily have to sit on a plane for hours. Even in Europe there are countless places that are still considered insider tips.

Sarajevo - the historical capital of Bosnia

The capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina has a beautiful old town that is bursting with history and culture. Travelers love the place especially because of the oriental flair that the churches, mosques and historic buildings convey. History buffs appreciate the place as it is a witness to a tragic event: In 1914, an assassination attempt in Sarajevo was considered the trigger of the First World War. The city is absolutely underestimated as a tourist destination, as it is still one of the most impressive cultural assets of the Balkan region.

Tariffa - the surfer's paradise of Andalusia

The dreamy city of Tariffa (not to be confused with Tenerife) is located directly at the Strait of Gibraltar. The special thing: While lying on the beach and watching the hustle and bustle of the surfers, on a clear day you also have a good view of Mount Moses on the Moroccan coast. Only 14 kilometres separate Tarifa from the continent of Africa. Speaking of surfers! The place is a true surfer's paradise in Andalusia due to the high waves and winds. Another highlight is that two oceans meet there. Towards the east the Mediterranean Sea and towards the west the Atlantic Ocean.

Vilnius - one of the oldest cities in Europe

Lithuania might not be the first thing you think of when planning a holiday. But why should you? Because the capital Vilnius alone, which is also one of the oldest cities in Europe, is considered a real insider tip. On an area of 400 km² only about 570,000 people live there (for comparison: Vienna is 414 km² and has 1.9 million inhabitants). This also makes it possible that about 50 percent of the city consists of green forests. There is a historic and particularly beautiful city centre to explore, as well as newer, modern districts with great shopping opportunities. Around the city, countless hiking and cycling tours are waiting to be discovered.

Polignano a Mare - the romantic town in Apulia

While most places in Puglia are overrun by tourists, especially in high summer, you can still enjoy peace and quiet in Polignano a Mare. The romantic town is located only about 30 kilometers southeast of Bari and is situated directly on an imposing rocky spur with an excellent view of the sea. Crystal clear turquoise water, secluded bays and action-packed cliffs make a holiday in this corner of Apulia simply unforgettable. A special experience is also the visit of the Grotta Palazzese - a large cave below the city, which provides for exceptionally romantic moments.
