That's Why We Want to Go to Tuscany in Fall

There's probably no season in which the rolling hills of Tuscany don't show their most beautiful side. But autumn in Tuscany is on a whole different level.

10 October 2023

In the morning there's still fog over the vines, but by noon at the latest the golden autumn sun makes the hills of Tuscany shine in a warm light. The vine leaves slowly change color, the fields are harvested and look expectantly towards the next spring. In any case, it won't be boring in autumn in Tuscany . What you shouldn't miss:

It goes from the Ponte Vecchio in Florence to the viewpoint Piazza Michelangelo and then on to the village of San Miniato.

Wine & other delicacies

Tuscany without wine? Unthinkable! Vinophile visitors should definitely spend the autumn in Tuscany. After all, between the end of August and end of October the grape harvest is here. Then traditional manor houses and wineries open their doors and invite you for tastings. At about the same time the olive harvest also takes place. Fresh olive oil, vino nuovo (young wine), plus a few chestnuts and fresh bread - the autumnal feast is complete.

Sightseeing without queuing

Sure, even in Tuscany you're not alone on the road in autumn. However, the big tourist rush of the summer is usually absent. In peace and quiet and at pleasant temperatures of around 20 degrees, you can enjoy your Aperol Spritz in the Piazza del Duomo in Florence and let your gaze wander over the impressive facade of the cathedral.

During a short walk through the city you pass the Ponte Vecchio with its small stores, pass the Uffizi Gallery and walk up the other side of the Arno to Piazza Michelangelo. From here, the view sweeps across the entire city. For even more autumnal atmosphere, a walk through the Giardino Boboli is worthwhile. Just a stone's throw from Florence, you'll find another Tuscan hotspot: Pisa. In front of the Keith Haring Mural on the way to the legendary Leaning Tower, it's worth taking a quick selfie. Then, the best way to continue is up the stairs to the very top. Also a view into the cathedral is worthwhile in any case.

Take spectacular photos

In autumn, the air is often particularly clear. In addition, during the day there're light conditions that during the summer you only know from the golden hour. So now is the best time to capture the legendary cypresses and green hills of Tuscany forever on (proverbial) celluloid. Proven to have been particularly beautiful photo spots arePodere Belvedere in Val d'Orcia and nearby the Gladiator Alley (opposite the estate Genna Broborini Maria Eva). One of the most popular photo motifs in Tuscany is the Agriturismo Poggio Covili or the serpentines of Monticchiello.
