Mallorca in spring: the almond blossom hotspot
The almond blossom on Mallorca is an enchanting natural spectacle that transforms the island into a sea of blossoms every spring. This is the ultimate guide for the best photo spots, restaurants, stores and hotels on the Balearic island.

Mallorca in spring: warm sunshine, blue skies and a light sea breeze. With it spreads a wonderful fragrance throughout the island: that of almond blossoms. Because between the end of January and the end of March, the largest of the Balearic Islands is transformed into a world of pale pink and white clouds. Around seven million almond trees ensure that the almond blossom on Mallorca is at least as enchanting as its "big sister" the cherry blossom in Japan. When exactly the best travel time for the natural spectacle begins, depends strongly on the region and the weather.

Where the almond blossom in Mallorca is the most beautiful
Usually the first delicate harbingers begin to bloom in early January in the Tramuntana Mountains. From there, the flowering spreads to the plains and the east of Mallorca. Because the flowering period lasts several weeks, you have plenty of opportunity to catch a glimpse of the spectacle and to shoot a few good photos. Because when in the 19th century a phylloxera plague destroyed a large part of the vineyards on Mallorca, people switched. Instead of wine, almonds and all their products were highly valued for a long time. When this fell again, the almond orchards became increasingly overgrown. In fact, Mallorca is currently concentrating on wine growing rather than almond cultivation. But that does not matter, because the trees can not be stopped from blooming.

They do so particularly picturesquely in the interior of the country. From the capital Palma, for example, you can make beautiful and uncomplicated trips to the southwest. Especially the towns of Andratx, Port Andratx and S'Arraco are considered hotspots for almond blossom spotting. More to the north, the fields between Valldemossa and Sóller entice with magnificent sights. Valldemossa should be on every Mallorca bucket list anyway. The village beckons with its enchanting alleys and the monastery where Frédéric Chopin's lover Georges Sand wrote the famous book "A Winter in Mallorca".

On the east coast, the region between Satanyi and Felanitx or the area around Llucmajor is a good tip. And if you think you can't see any more trees? Then you should devote yourself to the enjoyment of almonds in their most delicious form. Namely in the form of a traditional almond cake (Gato de Almendra), as almond liqueur (Flor d'Almentella) or in the sweet Turrón. Spending Spring in the Spanish Islands - that's always a good idea. But Mallorca has earned a top spot on the bucket list.
