Méribel: The place to ski for sun lovers

Fresh snow glistening in the sun even in March, 150 kilometers of slopes, 9 hectares of night skiing area, plus chic chalets and wonderful restaurants: skiing in Méribel is an experience even in spring.

10 February 2022

The small village of Méribel in the Savoie department in the French Alps has just 1,580 inhabitants. So you could almost assume that it is a rather quiet area. But only almost. Because more than 30,600 guest beds, 67 restaurants and its location in the middle of the legendary ski resort Les Trois Vallées between the Courchevel and Val Thorens valleys make it a hotspot for winter sports. No wonder, after all, skiing in Méribel is an exceedingly chic affair.

Important Facts: Skiing in Méribel

New snow: between 75 cm in January and 56 cm in March
Total kilometers of slopes: 150
Number of slopes: 70
Lifts: 14 gondolas, 16 chairlifts
Ski pass price: from approx. € 52.80/adults
Prerequisite: vaccination certificate
Ski season: beginning of December until end of April

Méribel is located at about 1400 meters, nestled between the Trois Vallées. This makes it the ideal starting point for almost endless winter sports fun. Lifts lead up on both sides. In the blink of an eye, you'll be swinging across the perfectly groomed slopes in one valley and the other. As tempting as it may be to indulge in this perceived infinity, it is also worth not forgetting the ski area of Méribel and its twin resort of Mottaret. It may be the smallest within the network of slopes, but it also has a lot to offer.

Up high

The ski area of Méribel extends up to 3,230 meters, 85 percent are above 1,800 meters. This creates the ideal conditions for sunny skiing. Even in March, you can still look forward to 56 centimeters of fresh snow. And this is best enjoyed under a blue sky and in bright sunshine. The Saulire Express takes you up to 2,700 meters. Now you are spoiled for choice. Because a descent is possible in all directions.

Especially recommended in the morning: the long downhill run towards Méribel and the wide, usually less frequented slopes of the Tougnete. Wonderful views can be enjoyed during the ride on the Plattiers gondola lift. It takes winter sports enthusiasts up to the 2,952-meter Mont Vallon. The descent through unspoilt high alpine terrain is a highlight of the Trois Valées.
