The Mercure Katowice Centrum opens in Poland and sets an example for eco-tourism

As the latest example of forward-looking eco-tourism, the new hotel in Katowice shows: Eco can be this luxurious.

24 September 2021

At the beginning of September, the Mercure Katowice opened its doors in the heart of the Silesian capital, the Polish city of Katowice. The modern hotel is part of the transformation that is taking place in Katowice: From industrial to Eco-city

Eco-tourism in a class of its own

With this new hotel, the Accor hotel group is further expanding its portfolio and adding another member to its Mercure network in Poland. A special feature of the new hotel is the focus on eco-tourism. Among other things, environmentally friendly solutions were integrated into the construction, and recycled materials were used. The investor of the new hotel is the Austrian property developer UBM Development.

The hotel impresses with 268 modern rooms on eight floors. The focus is on the sustainable use of environmentally friendly solutions that are intended to demonstrate the future of the modern hospitality industry. The guiding principle during planning was the theme "Green & Clean". This motto is clearly visible even from a distance. The façade of the hotel features the largest and highest naturally green wall in Katowice.

But the hotel itself is also about sustainability. Environmentally friendly technologies are therefore available throughout the house. The rooms are dominated by natural colours and materials. The aim is to create a calm and harmonious atmosphere. The entire interior of the hotel also reminds guests of the themes of the environment and nature. Of course, the theme of well-being should not be neglected: The Winestone bar and restaurant offer a wide selection of wines, including Polish and organic, as well as modern local cuisine. Rest and relaxation can also be found in the massage room, which is located on the 9th floor together with the adjacent fitness room. Here there is not only the most modern sports equipment, but also a magnificent panorama of the city.

Future-oriented concept

By the way, the location of the hotel was chosen quite deliberately, because the history of the city of Katowice is closely linked to the mining and steel industry. However, the city is consciously undergoing an ecological transformation and is increasingly developing into an environmentally friendly destination.

"By opening a hotel in one of the largest industrial centres in Poland, we want to consciously and actively participate in the green transformation of Katowice," explains Andrzej Kleeberg, Mercure Katowice Centrum General Manager. "Mercure Katowice Centrum uses environmentally friendly technologies at every step - from the plant wall on the building's facade to ecological solutions inside the hotel, including the use of environmentally friendly materials, renewable energy sources, rainwater and an advanced monitoring system for water and energy management. We are convinced that, in line with the Mercure brand's self-image, our hotel will become a central place of relaxation and encounter for both guests and locals."

Ideal business hotel in the middle of the city centre

The hotel is only 100 metres from the train and bus station, making it particularly central and ideally located for visitors. The location right in the city centre offers quick access to the city's main destinations: the International Congress Centre, the "Spodek" event hall and the KTW Business Centre are all within one kilometre. This makes the hotel the perfect place for business travellers. This is supported by the hotel's own business area. This offers modern conference rooms with a total capacity of up to 80 people and an area of almost 100 square meters. An underground car park with 70 parking spaces can also be used for the stay.

"Following Katowice's industrial past and offering ecological solutions in the hotel, we welcome the sustainable and green future," explains Marta Abratowska-Janiec, Manager Asset Management and Development Hotels Poland, UBM Development. "Mercure Katowice Centrum offers its guests solutions that we believe represent the future of the modern hotel industry. Moreover, thanks to its contemporary and design-oriented premises and its location in the city centre, our hotel is one of the most important places on Katowice's business and tourist map"
