New terrace at Mama Marseille

Outdoor Area With Insta Factor By Mama Shelter

10 March 2020

The way is clear for a new look: Mama Design Studio has given the terrace of Mama Marseilles a new coat of paint. The result is a completely new experience - lively and super photogenic. From brainstorming to the final concept, it only took a few days.

The Mama Design Studio team around Benjamin El Doghaïli was inspired by the work of the renowned Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill. Among other things, he designed the residential complex "La Muralla Roja" ("The Red Mural") in Calpe, Spain, which was built in 1973. El Doghaïli comments: "'La Muralla Roja' is known for its winding staircases and bold colors, from bright reds to light blues. Marseille is considered a true melting pot of cultures and we wanted to capture its warm, appealing flair here, in the heart of Mama Marseille."

References to Mediterranean architecture are everywhere on Mama Marseille's new terrace. The diverse influences help make MAMA's new space vibrant and all-around inviting - much like themselves.

New concept from the hand of mom design studio team

The floor covering in pink tones, consisting of small pieces of different carpets, for example, is reminiscent of a North African souk. Succulents are lined up on the interlocking, open-air-theatre-like heels. These typically thrive in the southern Mediterranean.

If you look up, you'll see a blue ceiling that's deceptively similar to the sky over the sea. When the staff first saw the terrace, they thought it wasn't covered at all. In fact, depending on the weather, the roof can be closed or retracted.

The new terrace offers space for up to 180 people plus the bar area. To ensure that as many guests as possible can enjoy the terrace, it is open daily from 7am to 1:30am. Drinks at the bar are available until midnight. In addition, homemade dishes prepared with love are served. The menu was developed together with the well-known French chef Guy Savoy and entices with Mediterranean specialties such as hummus and baba ganoush, but also with signature dishes such as "Mama's Macaroni".

MAMA loves parties and so every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 pm you can dance to live music and DJ sets.

About Mama Shelter

After a long and successful career with Club Med, which the Trigano family helped found, Serge Trigano and his sons Benjamin and Jérémie launched Mama Shelter in 2008. From the beginning, the founders focused on a mix of fun experiences for guests, affordable prices, and outstanding service. They also wanted Mama to only have a presence in cities they liked, and only in neighborhoods with a special history there. By focusing exclusively on locations close to the Triganos' personal hearts, the brand's properties are found in destinations that fit their ideal of a place that is as extraordinary as it is eccentric and distinctive. Each city has a rich tradition and paves the way to new horizons for peaceful coexistence - also part of the Trigano vision. The first Mama Shelter hotel was thus created in Paris, followed by Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux, Los Angeles, Rio de Janeiro, Prague, Belgrade, Toulouse, Lille, London and Paris West. New openings are planned in Luxembourg, Dubai, Santiago de Chile, Rome, Lisbon and many more. Since 2014, Mama Shelter has been cooperating with the international hotel group Accor to further develop the concept and welcome travellers and locals around the world.
