Stay at the Nobis Hotel Palma Surrounded by 1000 Years of History

The new luxury hotel on Mallorca welcomes its guests in one of the oldest buildings in the city, which in turn surprises with modern luxury.

December 7, 2023

With the reopening of the Nobis Hotel Palma, a member of Design Hotels™, a former palace has been awakened from its slumber. The building is one of the oldest on Mallorca. And has now undergone a complete renovation. High-ranking architects were responsible for this. They brought the 12th century property into the 21st century with a light hand.

Multi-award-winning team

Once upon a time, a long, long time ago ... more precisely: around 1,000 years ago. Back then, a medieval Islamic palace was built. It's located where the beautiful squares and Gothic churches of Palma can be found today. The courtyards of the palace survived fires and earthquakes. In its long history, the palace was the residence of noble Mallorcans. Over time, the architecture changed. A medieval property became a Gothic, later a Baroque building. And today?

The multi-award-winning Swedish design studio Wingårdhs proves just how well past and present can harmonize with each other. With Helena Toresson at the helm and the architectural concept of the Spanish firms Jordi Herrero Arquitectos and Eduardo Garcia Acuna Arquitectos, a masterpiece has been created. Many original elements, such as archways and stone walls, have been preserved. Black steel constructions and light installations, on the other hand, pay homage to modernity. The interior design provides warmth. Materials such as wood and leather dominate here. Natural colors reflect the signature design of the Nobis Hospitality Group.

Cautious transformation

37 rooms, including 11 suites, are available to guests. Many historical elements can be admired both in the accommodation and in the public areas. For example, the paneled ceiling in the lobby with its Arabic inscriptions or centuries-old ceramic tiles. To emphasize the connection to the island, the craftsmen and materials were selected locally. Carefully curated designer pieces underline the ambience. For example, you can admire works by Taccini, Arflex, David Groppi and Pols Potten.

Where there was once a fountain, a dipping pool now awaits guests. Under the nine-meter-high ceiling you'll find the Mirall Bar now, where you can sip delicious cocktails. Parts of the former secret passageway have also been preserved. They can be admired from the spa. This in turn attracts guests with a pool, a sauna and an infrared sauna. If you like, you can keep fit in the gym or relax on the sun terrace, surrounded by greenery.

Speaking of relaxing: The overall vibe at the Nobis Hotel Palma is relaxed, calm and unagitated. And this also extends to the culinary concept. The Signature Restaurant serves Mallorcan cuisine by chef Xema Álvarez. Only locally available ingredients are used. The rooftop bar, on the other hand, offers drinks and snacks with views of Le Seu Cathedral.
