Hotel Puerta America Madrid

Star architects create science fiction space.

THE suites at Puerta America Madrid are black as night with bright elements and high quality materials - unique! © Hotel Puerta America Madrid

Black painted walls, mirrored corridors, cavernous, all-white rooms and a whole lot of technology: 19 of the world's best and most forward-looking architects, including Zaha Hadid and Jean Nouvel, have created a top-class hotel in the centre of Madrid. From the outside, the twelve-story building appears in all the colours of the rainbow; inside, each floor has been dedicated to a different theme and furnished with different materials, colours and shapes to create a unique sensory experience.

Nhow Berlin

When art and luxury hotel come together: a harmonious symbiosis. © Mattias Hamrén

As if you had strayed into a pop art gallery, the entrance area of the four-star hotel comes up trumps with eye-catchers. But it is above all the high-tech extras that make this hotel so special. Is your business partner based in Hong Kong? No problem! With the help of holographic technology, he can be seen as a 3D projection in the conference room. Speaking of (environmentally friendly) mobility: instead of cabs, guests here take Segways and electric cars through the city. Music equipment (keyboards and guitars) is also available for a jam session.

Kameha Grand Zurich

Spend the night like in the space shuttle - only much more spacious and luxurious.

A zero-gravity bed, a library of space-themed literature and TVs with a live TV feed from Nasa linked to the International Space Station: not everyone has the opportunity to travel into space, but a night in the Space Suite of the Kameha Grand Zurich will also make the hearts of space fans beat faster. German photo artist Michael Najjar has decorated the 115-square-meter room with numerous details designed to resemble a space station. He himself is also a Virgin Galactic pioneer astronaut and wants to be the first artist to fly into space.

Inspired by the flowing robe of an Arabian dancer, the breathtaking steel and glass architecture covers the two hotel buildings of the exclusive W Yas Island and connects them as a bridge. From above, the view falls on the marina and the Abu Dhabi race track, which winds its way under the construction. The play of lights on the exterior façade, conjured up by around 5,000 LED lights, is also impressive and pays homage to the high-performance cars and the atmosphere of Formula 1.

While the stone houses of the historic Xintiandi district line up outside, the five-star hotel is decorated inside with state-of-the-art mixed-media artworks consisting of LED lighting, sensors, video projections, and recycled materials. The skilful mix of styles is continued in the bathrooms, among other places, where high-tech washbasins and bathtubs have been placed against rock walls. A spa landscape is also planned, where traditional Chinese medicine meets modern wellness techniques.
