The Apurva Kempinski Bali focuses on sustainability

This is how luxury and climate protection can be combined

6 May 2021

Two years ago, the exclusive five-star resort The Apurva Kempinski Bali opened its doors. Since then, the hotel has pursued only one goal: sustainability. This includes limiting the use of disposable plastic, reducing waste and energy consumption. It also includes active monitoring and reporting of the environmental and social impact of operations.

Now the resort is setting another sustainable Module, by launching a rooftop garden.

"The Rooftop Garden is another step in our resort's efforts to better the environment," said General Manager Vincent Guironnet. "Our main program for 2021 is "Celebrating Diversity" and sustainability plays an essential role in this. For us, it's important to provide an uncompromising luxury experience while ensuring minimal impact on the environment and society."

A few steps towards sustainability

From day one, Apurva Kempinski Bali has made a name for itself for targeting various aspects of sustainability. Based on the awareness of the harmful effects of plastic waste on the environment, the resort has replaced single-use plastic, such as straws, with biodegradable products. Saving water by only changing linens in the room at the guest's request, or donating discarded linens in partnership with Diversey's Linen for Life program to distribute free face masks to people in need in the local community were other steps the luxury hotel implemented.

In addition, the Soap for Hope program provides people in need with access to soap and information on how and when to use it. Soap from the resort is cut, disinfected, compressed into a new bar of soap and distributed to residents in the village.

The Earth-Check-Certified-Program

Perched on the majestic cliff of Nusa Dua, with breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean and a tropical garden, the luxury hotel, like many other Kempinski hotels, participates in the award-winning Earth-Check-Certified program, through which not only water and energy consumption and carbon footprint are monitored, but also employment conditions, support for the local community or the use of fair trade goods and services - all of which contribute to the economic and social health of the region.

"As an international luxury hotel operator, we at Kempinski are conscious of our responsibility towards the environment, placing our environmental footprint at the heart of our business model and striving to reduce pressure on natural resources in all our daily actions," adds Vincent Guironnet.
