First Vegan Restaurant Opens in Southern Thailand

Southern Thai cuisine is usually based largely on chicken, fish and spicy minced meat. However, the first vegan restaurant in the region is now proving that it can also be done completely without animal products.

March 8, 2023

Plant-based nutrition has long since ceased to be a simple, ephemeral trend. Rather, the strict renunciation of animal products has established itself as a new way of life - and has also completely overturned the culinary rules. There are now hardly any regions without dishes for vegans. Even in southern Thailand, where people have otherwise always stuck to their special animal recipes, the first vegan restaurant in the area has now opened.

Ingredients from own cultivation

The boutique hotel Aleenta Resort & Spa Phuket-Phang Nga can now call itself a pioneer in terms of vegan nutrition. With SEASONS, the first completely plant-based restaurant in the area was opened here at the end of February 2023. Even though the kitchen team relies entirely on regional ingredients without animal proteins, in the process they have been inspired by local culture. The result: creative creations with Western influences that do not miss the Southern Thai taste.

For this, the chefs find support in their own garden: "Our ingredients come exclusively from our own cultivation or from the region, especially from the area around our hotel," says Aleenta General Manager Anchalika Kijkanakorn. Rice is just as much a part of the menu at SEASONS as tofu and vegetables. A well-known classic that has made it onto the menu is chili sin carne. To guarantee freshness at all times, the selection of dishes changes every season - so the name of the restaurant says it all.

Small starter

There is room for only 16 guests in the first vegan restaurant in southern Thailand, which is precisely why it scores points with its private and exclusive atmosphere. Something else is convincing too: the clear line, which is also continued in the design of the dining room. The natural materials and sustainability were also used here.
